More About the Author
Always ahead of her time, Ann Louise set the pace for new health protocols in the 1990s with four more breakthrough books. She was the first to warn of the environmental hazards of parasites in her classic Guess What Came to Dinner? Parasites and Your Health. In Your Body Knows Best, Ann Louise was the first to discuss the blood type/weight theory and proclaim that one diet may not be right for every body − an idea that is only now becoming mainstream. She was the first to offer natural remedies for menopausal symptoms in Super Nutrition for Menopause and is widely credited as the first to popularize the term "perimenopause" in her New York Times bestseller, Before the Change.
Ann Louise forged new ways of thinking about obesity early on in her career. She was the first to proclaim that obesity was caused by the lack of dietary fats and the wrong kind of carbohydrates in her book Beyond Pritikin, published in 1988. In Beyond Pritikin, she predicted that the fat-free, carb-rich diet was creating weight gain, sugar cravings, fatigue and diabetes.

The bestselling author of The Fat Flush Plan has turned her attention to the hazards of the wireless age with her newest release--Zapped: Why Your Cell Phone Shouldn't Be Your Alarm Clock and 1,268 Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution (HarperOne, 2010).
Praise for Zapped:
"Dr. Gittleman provides a cogent, sobering look at the effects of ever present electromagnetic pollution on our biology and clear, practical advice on how to minimize our exposures and our risk. Please follow her advice, it may save your life and give you renewed energy."
--Mark Hyman, MD, New York Times best-selling author of The UltraMind Solution and How to Fix Your Broken Brain by Healing Your Body First
"Zapped is an empowering guide that will help you transform your body and your home into a sanctuary of health and healing."
--John Gray, PhD, author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus
"The book caught my attention immediately because I've been reading about, studying, and writing about the effects of electropollution for several years. This book just adds further confirmation that we live in an 'electropolluted' world, and we need to protect ourselves the best we can... You can learn many, many more simple and more in-depth tips on how to protect yourself by reading Zapped."
--Susan Lark, MD, author of Hormone Revolution and editor of Women's Wellness Today
"You are being 'Zapped' whether you know it or not! When artificial and manmade frequencies from cellphones, wireless computers, and cordless phones constantly bombard your system, they alter the body's natural electromagnetic balance and affect DNA, organs, and glands. Packed with scientific backup, find out what you can do about electropollution--a public health concern more insidious than cigarettes, asbestos, and HRT combined. The life you save may be your own--and your loved ones."
--Hyla Cass, MD, author of 8 Weeks to Vibrant Health and former Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA School of Medicine
Top Customer Reviews
The problems with this book are as follows:
1. There are no substitutes to the some of the more expensive products she recommends. For examples: Flora-key, Fat Flush whey, etc. Only directs you to her distributor "Unikey"
- Have to do a lot of research and digging to get some alternatives: Flora-key use Jarro-Dophilus® + FOS Powder (12 billion) but cut dosage in 1/2. For the whey use Jarrow Whey Protein Vanilla
Other people have suggestions??
2. It requires a BIG food budget. To get you through the first week, expect to pay around 300 if you don't have any of the supplements (whey, flax oil, probotics, cranberry juice) It does get a little cheaper for the rest of the month, but as soon as you run out of the supplements... $$$
3. It requires a LOT of time for food preparation. I noticed this was probably a big issue with her first book, since she now does "left over" days. Don't be surprised if you spend 1 - 2 hours a night to prep food for the next day (assuming you work during the day).
4. Items that don't have set recipes are very hard to follow and require a LOT of interpolation. How to cook the food, how much to serve, etc.
5. No good gauge on how much food to buy. Because of number 4, you don't know if you need to buy one carrot vs 5lbs of carrots. Based on this there isn't really a shopping list for the 14-day(s) meal plans that provides. Making it VERY time consuming to go through the book and write/type down the shopping list.
In wrap up, unless you are willing to sacrifice time and money, you may want to look at another option.
I am someone who spent hours hating myself for my body that was hijacked by hormones and food that my body processed as toxic to me. I was on EVERY plan-points, exchanges, arranging the food on the plate, drinks, grapefruit, starvation, only whole grains blah blah blah. I lost and gained the same 16 lbs for YEARS and HUNDREDS of dollars and THOUSANDS of hours detesting my lame-based on how hard it was all all it took-results. I mean when you are 100+ lbs away from goal, 16 is a drop in the chubby bucket!
I bought the book and did just as Dr. Gittleman explained and felt as if she had 'decoded' my bodies dys-function as eating this way and these foods-my body/metabolism had been recalibrated and so started my journey of melting fat, toxins, cellulite, chins and belly fat away. Bottom line is your body will tell you if it is the right plan for you like no other. How you asked? For me it was 10 lbs, 15 inches in 14 days-period the end. Fat Flush For Life is my life, now down over 100lbs, not at a final goal weight yet but 42 and looking for little black dresses and sexy shoes that I 'should have' been wearing when I was a bit younger but instead bought the big house coaty moo-moos, you know them, right?
I do not miss the days of waking up the the FIRST thoughts was 'Uggh, I hate my body' Now I wake up and FIRST thought is 'YES! What I am doing is working!' Through all of this I have never gained either-ever.Read more ›
The Hot Metabolism Booster is an awesome. Easy to follow, quick results, and very tasty.
The new and additional approaches to the fat flush program are great.
Ann Louise Gittleman also is extremely talented in writing to the every day person, she explains her program well, without overdoing it with complicated approaches, anyone can do this.
Working full time, also owning a small business, two young kids, and a husband I consider myself fairly busy and sometimes diets or healthy eating is difficult, this time around Fat Flush for Life has included more options for me and makes the plan even easier to follow.
