A candidly funny and off-beat coming-of-age story focusing on the trials and tribulations of a gay, theater-obsessed Texan high school senior who has his heart set on Broadway stardom and an eye out for love. With the help of his 300-pound best girl friend, he embarks on a winning journey of self discovery.

This DVD is a gem! Check it out - has lots to offer those curious filmmakers who love to hear about indie successes. Film was done on less than a $25K production budget - which is a small fraction of most films out there. For the money, lots of good stuff. It'll make you laugh out loud for sure.

In a small Texas town, Broadway geek Rodney and plus-sized Sabrina have loads in common. They dig who they are. They don't care what other high-schoolers think. And they're both hunting for the perfect guy. But when they find their hunky dream dates, will they have the courage to strut their forbidden love at the Graduation Dance?

This hilarious, heartrending journey of self-discovery in small-town America is a testament to growing up very gay, very big, or just very different.

I bought "Fat Girls" after Joy Nash recommended it in her blog, along with "Disfigured". While I wasn't hugely impressed by it's general lack of depth, it still left me in a happy place. I was mostly happy with the lack of stereotypes, exception of the boy's mother, and there were definitely parts where I screamed with laughter and indignation. (The fat girl best friend actually had self worth! And danced at a dance! Minor miracle for a movie. And the gay guy wasn't a flamboyant parody - he was actually portrayed more as a human than a characature, which was refreshing.)

Annoying in places but good at heart.

Can't wait to see what else Ash Christian churns out as he matures artistically.

this is a very funny movie.
it brings up some serious issues that many people face everyday while in high school.
the only part that i was sort of upset with was the ending. i don't want to give it away, but i felt that it could have been a different ending.
overall, i would recommend it.

I really enjoyed this movie. THe comedy was good, and the actors were great. I wish it would have gone on more, but it was cute how it ended. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't afraid to be who and what they are!! Be PROUD!!
