I'm sorry, Mr. King. Just because you keep repeating the phrase "this is not a diet" doesn't make it so. The first half of this book has some interesting high falutin' sounding science. If the research actually supports the information there it is worth a read. Despite that, ultimately his advice can be summed up as: Eat less and exercise more. I think we're all on board...

5.0 out of 5 stars This will change your life!!!!, April 24, 2002

Brad J King has changed my life. I've been doing the things that he said in his book now for 2 months and I have lost 20 pounds. This is not one of your "quick fix" diet books, but a way of life! What I enjoyed most about the book is the knowledge that Mr. King puts in your hands. He teaches you about how your body works and what it needs, with food being the most important component. The great part about the book is that it is in fact entitled "Fat Wars", but this is not the real message that Brad is sending out. See all the things that Brad talks about in his book relates to your overall health as a whole. If you implement the things he talks about, you will significantly lowr your changes of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and many other diseases. This is the most important message that I received. Basically, burning the fat off is a by-product of eating healthy and feeding your body what it needs. Buy the book, it will change your life. It has already done so for me. And I forgot to mention that I eat like a pig (5times a day) and can't see myself ever going back to my old eating habits again. Knowledge is power. Thanks Brad King!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are over-fat.....buy this book now!!, June 21, 2002

I have read tons of books on health and fitness over the past few years, and FAT WARS by Brad King is by far the best one yet! Brad has a way putting complex issues of the human body into a very understandable language. This book has put an end to my confusion of how to finally lose fat for good.

FAT WARS is a simple strategy that teaches you how to take the right steps to get rid of the body fat permanently! It is NOT some trendy diet or quick fix. FAT WARS is about a solid lifestyle plan that teaches you how to get lean and be healthy for a lifetime. I highly recommend this book to any person who wants to learn how to change your body for the better. This book was money well spent! Fatwars.com is also a great accompanying web-site.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning the Fatwars, June 5, 2002

This review is from: Fat Wars: 45 days to transform your body (For Dummies (Health & Fitness)) (Paperback)
I was skeptical at first, as most probably are.
I read just the first two chapters and found it very easy to read with all the necessary information.
After that, I couldn't put the book down.
This book provides valuable insight into how the body works.
Once I understood those concepts, I couldn't wait to begin following the 45 day transformation plan.
To others reading this; take this book seriously and pratice what it tells you!
thanks Brad.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS BOOK!!, June 9, 2002
This review is from: Fat Wars: 45 days to transform your body (For Dummies (Health & Fitness)) (Paperback)
Like too many others out there, we have all read too many books on how to lose weight. This book however, ROCKS!! Finally, finally Brad King has put all the pieces together in a way that is easy to understand and easy to adapt to. I do not consider this a diet. This is program for health and well being. Most importantly, if you are like me, and have suffered for too many years with an insulin problem (ex: eating a box of cookies in one sitting) and wondering how it was possible to even do that....this book explains everything. And, in such a way as to make a little light bulb go off in your head......'ahhhhhh, I get it now', you will say. I am not a bad person, I have just not had the correct information! Once you get Brad's message, I believe you will be forever changed. And, I am so grateful there weren't any stupid recipes in the book! The Fat Wars website is also wonderful and very helpful. I will be tracking my progress on the site over the months to come. I definitely recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book I was waiting for, October 23, 2003

This review is from: Fat Wars: 45 days to transform your body (For Dummies (Health & Fitness)) (Paperback)
I don't buy diet books. I checked this one out of the library, read it, and had to own it. The 'ah-hah' moments people talk about are geniunely enlightening. If you want meal plans, recipes, and the standard info usually included in these books, this is not for you. If you want to understand how your body got to be the way it is and how you can be in charge of changing it radically for the better, read this book. I love the concept of managing fat loss (not just weight loss) and the strategies offered to make this happen. This information has helped me reclaim my pre-pregnancy body (bodyfat is down to 24% from 38%). The book is based on science and is a scientific read to a certain extent, but it's very clearly explained. I will be living according to these principles for the rest of my life (and not in a coffee-and-Twinkies body, either)!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Fitness Book You Need, February 12, 2002
By
This review is from: Fat Wars: 45 days to transform your body (For Dummies (Health & Fitness)) (Paperback)
I've always believed that if I just get some exercise every day, you know 'stairs instead of the elevator' and a walk after dinner-type stuff, I'll be fit and healthy, and look good. Yet, in my 26 years of putting this theory in practice, it still remains only a theory, and I still remain a slightly padded, slightly tired individual. Then I bought this book. It REALLY is a great book! Up to date information about my body and how what I eat and how I exercise affects it is conveyed in a really user-friendly way. I took the information in the exercise section, and made charts up for my 45 day plan, so I could quickly see what exercises to do, how often, etc. It was so easy. And now I feel great. I sleep deeply at night, wake up feeling energised and ready to do the days exercise routine. The exercises are simple, and can be done at home with free weights. I don't have cravings late at night, and I feel full after my meals. And it's not because of any diet gimmick, like energy pills, or drinking lots of water before you eat. It's because I've learned how to properly fuel my body, so I have enough energy for the day, and so I'm not still hungry after eating a big plate of food. And let me tell you, as the mother of an always-running one year old, having enough energy is really important, and so is getting rid of my baby fat for good! With the information I've learned from Fat Wars, I am doing both!

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Training Manual in the War (Against FAT)!, April 6, 2002
This review is from: Fat Wars: 45 days to transform your body (For Dummies (Health & Fitness)) (Paperback)
I lost 70 pounds OF FAT using the principles described in this book! I have read and re-read the conflicting information out there and I am convinced that Brad has it "right" for the majority of us. The "science" in this book, albeit complicated at times, rings true. Hey, we have to lift weights and cut calories to lose fat! This is in fact a war. But by arming ourselves in this struggle with the info in this book, I find that I am making good progress. I used the very good Darden book "Living Longer, Stronger" for the intelligence to win the first battles of the war, but I think things learned here will make the difference in the long struggle.

This book doesn't fill space with a lot of yucky recipes. It explains how we got this way (both men, women, and even junior), it gives the skinny on food and supplements, and it tells the truth about exercise, i.e., ya gotta build some muscle.

I am conviced that to really lose weight successfully, the principles in this book will make the difference between victory and a big belly.

I think we're all on board with that!

He recommends consuming five small meals a day, two of which should be protein shakes (which are no doubt available for purchase through his website). Reminds one of Ultra Slim or, even worse, Optifast. How is that NOT a diet? I don't think anyone wants a "lifestyle change" that includes drinking two liquid meals a day. He also advises a fairly strict 40-30-30 breakdown of carbs, protein and fat at every meal. And calorie counting.

Folks, moderate your intake of the foods you already KNOW you shouldn't over-indulge in and move your body 30-45 minutes a day as a minimum. Don't bother with this or any other diet book. As the old adage goes, if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't.

I've read many nutritional books, completed the Body For Life workout program, but did not get such a detailed breakdown and knowledge of eating principles that I got from Fat Wars by Brad King.
His website is also informative and very accesible. For the serious body building enthusiast his book is a must or anyone who wants to know how to reduce their waistline!
