5.0 out of 5 stars Book 5. Fabulous!, July 17, 2007
This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
Sabine Rose keeps quiet about her psychic abilities. They have already given her more grief than any one person should have to deal with in a life time. Yet these gifts may be what helps Sabine save Nona, her grandmother. Nona is slowly losing her memories. Unless Sabine and Dominic, Nona's young handyman and apprentice, can find the hidden remedy book of an ancestor, Nona will soon slip into a coma. So when Sabine moves back in with Nona in Sheridan Valley, she is ecstatic! All her new friends welcome her back with open arms.

Josh, Sabine's boyfriend, is big on helping kids. He convinces Sabine to sign up as a mentor during a camping trip for disadvantaged kids. It is a three-day weekend event to be held in less than two weeks. But Josh is also acting differently. He now has a three letter tattoo and refuses to discuss what the letters mean.

Josh is not the only one acting or feeling different. Sabine cannot stop herself from dreaming of Dominic or getting excited just by his close presence. Sabine is being pulled between two guys and is unable to decide which she honestly wants. But all that must wait, because Dominic has found the fourth, and last, missing charm. After over one hundred and fifty years, the charms are together again. Agnes, Sabine's ancestor, gave one charm to each of her four daughters long, long ago. Together they give all the clues needed to locate a remedy book Agnes hid. With all four charms in their possession, Sabine and Dominic are in a race against time to find the book and cure Nona.

If all that is not enough to keep Sabine busy, she also learns to astral travel. During one astral travel, Sabine spies on Jade, the half-sister she recently found out about. Dad refuses to tell his current family about Jade and her mother, Crystal. Sworn to secrecy, Sabine cannot help but resent Jade for her very existence. Yet when Sabine witnesses a murder during her astral spying, she immediately calls Dad. The victim looked like Crystal.

***** This is the fifth book of THE SEER series. If you do not read the previous books, you may find yourself a bit lost at times. All the secondary characters from the previous stories are mentioned, though a couple play no real part in this episode. The author ties up all loose strings and answers all the questions her readers have been eager to know. Yet, at the same time, the author COULD continue the series, using a few continuous running sub-plots. Will the story continue or end here? We, the readers, must wait and see. One thing is for sure, this is not one to miss! Fabulous! *****

This was a great series of books, I read them all. There was a bit of suspense in all of them, and it was awesome reading them on a Kindle because then I could just download the next book and start reading right away to see what Sabine was up to next!!

I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait for the next installment - Magician's Muse. You'll be rooting for Sabine and swooning over Dominic with this amazing story. If you're a fan of fantasy, paranormal and romance books, then you'll love this book. Hopefully as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait!, July 19, 2007
This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
Still keeping quiet about her psychic gift, Sabine is totally thrilled to return to her grandmother Nona's farm and be back with her friends and boyfriend in safe Sheridan Valley.

But Nona's rapidly failing health has Sabine and Dominic frantically unraveling the coded charms to find a lost cure-hidden for over 100 years.

Linda Singleton takes the reader on a whirlwind adventure. This is the fifth book in The Seer series. I loved all of her books but this one was so worth the wait. There's romance, mystery, danger, and even a surprise.

I would recommend this book and the rest of the series to those who enjoyed such books as BLUE IS FOR NIGHTMARES and THE MEDIATOR series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic characters, February 24, 2012

The Seer series has been the most popular series in our school library for the past few years. The kids have to have the next one in the series before they finish the book they are reading. They can't wait a minute. Singleton has an incredible 6th sense herself.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little better than the last., December 21, 2011

This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
My review of Sword Play was not favorable, but this one somewhat renews my faith in the series.

My main problem with this book was that it never gripped me; the pacing is awful. After the first "kicker" in the first few chapters, nothing happens. You get a lot of back and forth between Sabine's love interests, some angst about Jade, and then finally the camp-out trip (after being waved in readers' faces for several books) finally happens in the last 15-ish percent of the book. Before then, there's nothing. I didn't feel like I was missing anything by walking away for 6 months, and that isn't a good sign for me.

[Spoilers]

The mystery part of the book was a little awkward. It's a pretty typical whodunnit overall. You don't find out who ruined the shop until the last 2 pages. I think the surprise there could have hit much harder than it did, but it was rushed and abrupt. Also, when Sabine saw the killer over Jade, she says that the recognized the man. What she actually meant was that the man's face matched the face from her astral travel visit, not that she knew who the man was. No, that part of the story was hastily thrown together, too.

[End Spoilers]

So what's good about the book? Sabine doesn't whine as much, only with her love interests but it seems like that's resolved for good. I felt what the author did with Josh was thematic. But judging from the title of the next book, that isn't over.

Time to finish the series, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fatal Charm, No Charming, January 8, 2011
By
This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
Fatal Charm is the fifth book in this series by Linda Joy Singleton. It begins by Sabine getting to return to the farm with Nona after staying with her family for awhile. She has missed the farm and is glad to return but she returns to find that Nona's memory is getting worse. While dealing with trying to find the last charm and also falling for a new boyfriend while still dating the current one, Sabine discovers that she has a half sister. How can a teenager deal with all of these issues at the same time. Well you need to read Fatal Charm.

I will say that I enjoyed this book because it answered some of the questions I had been asking from reading the other books. My only problem with this one was that the ending was too abrupt. I think she concluded the story but it was truly lacking some of the charm that Singleton usually puts in her books. Do not let this keep you away from reading the book though, you will truly enjoy it and I cannot wait for the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best book out of series so far, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
Best book out of series so far.........
This is a very good series... I have read all five so far and I think #6 is going to be the best book in the series depending on how the author plays off the last book with the ex-boyfriend and the new one... We will have to see...
The only thing I don't like about this series is the books are to small and the stories in each book could be longer.. How ever it's still a very good series...

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally Sabine comes to her senses, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Fatal Charm (The Seer Series) (Paperback)
I really did like this, what I believe is the final installment of this series, I could be wrong. It was longer than the others which I was excited about, I enjoy Linda Joy Singleton's Seer series but felt her books were a bit on the light side. The only thing I did not like about this story was the way Sabine was written in this particular book. I really like Sabine's character and I felt Singelton didn't do a great job of channeling Sabine's personality in this book. I had to skip through several pages not wanting to read them because of the repition of Sabine's inner feud with herself. I kept thinking there was no way Singleton could keep writing this conversation Sabine has with herself over and over again. I thought I was going to scream if Sabine didn't pull her head out of her behind and stop going back in forth in her mind. I don't like Josh like that, I have feelings for Dominic, I am going to break up with Josh, no wait Josh is a good boyfriend I can't dump him, I suck for thinking about Dominic, my feelings for Josh are real, back and forth throughout the book it just gave me a headache. Other than that I was happy with Singleton's conclusions although I think towards the end of the book things seem rushed to be ended and came together a bit fast. It's a good read if you like the series but it isn't her best work.
