Book Description

July 31, 2006
"Arnold Trebach was one of the first reputable scholars to delineate the irrationality of America's ill-chosen drug war, its inevitable failure, and the enormous human and fiscal costs of this endless war. It is good to see that in this persuasive book he is still energetically seeking to convince the country and the world that a frontal attack on prohibition, rather than a series of wimpy compromises, is actually sensible, moderate, and eloquently practical." Joseph McNamara Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University Former Chief of Police, San Jose, CA

About the Author

Arnold S. Trebach, Ph.D., J.D. is a professor emeritus of American University, an attorney, and author of major award-winning books such as The Great Drug War (Macmillan Publishing, 1987; updated in 2005 by Unlimited Publishing LLC), and The Heroin Solution (Yale University Press 1982, Unlimited Publishing LLC 2006). He is a legendary drug policy pioneer. He founded the Drug Policy Foundation in 1986 and led it until 1997, work that resulted in his consideration for a Nobel Peace Prize. Trebach has been called the "Father of the Modern Drug Policy Reform Movement," the "Shadow Drug Czar," and much less favorable appellations by opponents. His peripatetic research for these books allowed him to launch rational reform strategies, grounded in reality.
