5.0 out of 5 stars True Classic Arcade Experience
Mark of the wolves is classic 2d fighitng at its best. Everything about this game is well executed and the fighters are neither overpowered nor underbalanced. The Graphics look a little pixilated, But considering the type of game and the amount of character animations it is easily overlooked.

Fatal Fury: Mark of Wolves - Circa 2001

GOOD:
- Good Balanced 2D fighter, considered a classic to many hardcore 2D fighting fans
- Really nice animations
- Finally SNK gets off it's butt and makes a fighting game with graphics that don't look like they belong in a museum

BAD:
- Graphics might be a little dated for some...

5.0 out of 5 stars True Classic Arcade Experience, June 18, 2005

This review is from: Fatal Fury: Mark of The Wolves (Video Game)
Mark of the wolves is classic 2d fighitng at its best. Everything about this game is well executed and the fighters are neither overpowered nor underbalanced. The Graphics look a little pixilated, But considering the type of game and the amount of character animations it is easily overlooked.

The way the characters work is wonderfull. You won't be doing 25+ hit combos Like in some of the new 2D fighters. The interaction and balance really takes the forefront here. Learning the timing for jumping, combos, and use of special moves really becomes nessecary or else you will be getting a major pounding from your opponent.

There are a few things to consider though before purchasing.

1) This game is hard. Very Hard. If any of you remember the Arcade version of "Street Fighter 2 Turbo" sucking away your quarters you know what I'm talking about.

2) You realy need to invest in a joystick to play this game. The Dream Cast controler just doesn't cut it here. You really need to use "Super Moves" to be effective against the CPU and you have to pull them off reliably and effectivly. Some of the super moves require lots of directional input, and the regular controller is going to leave you frustrated. (Dream Cast Joysticks are a cheap buy these days at about 10$ USD)

Overall this game is great. Old 2d fighting fans who pumped quarters at the arcades will be getting top notch difficulty and quality. Newer gamers or people beefing up their Dream Cast collections will get an excellent 2 player fighing game to play with friends and family, althouth the single player experience might be a bit too hard.

For one of the final games of the original SNK run and one of the few games that SNK touted as a 2-D masterpiece, it is a sure-fire hit. Yes, I said that also about Last Blade 2, but this is its sister game, and boy, is it worth the money. The gameplay is simplified, yet familiar, taking a page out of the Street Fighter Alpha and SF3 series, the characters all have a connection to the days of Fatal Fury Past, the graphics are phenomenal, and the presentation is superb. My only regret: they didn't make a sequel to this or Last Blade 2. Oh well. Making due with these is good enough for me. Get...this...game!

Great game and demonstrates why the dreamcast had great fighting games! Get this game if you like fighting games, and if you are a fan of the best fighter ever... Terry Bogard!

Fatal Fury Mark Of The Wolves is a great fighting game because it's easy to play and more fun than some of the Street Fighter games. The only returning fighter is Terry Bogard, but the other fighters are well balanced and the super moves are easy to pull off. This Fatal Fury game is different from the other ones, this game is equal to SF 3rd Strike. This game is unlike the SF games because the fighters have all good moves,SF games have great characters, but most of them have charge moves and that sucks. The story mode is awesome, but it's so chessy. This game has great sprites when a move is performed and has one of the best backgrounds ive seen a 2D game.

The survival mode is hard and the most challenging mode in the game, their isn't that many different modes, but it's still one the best SNK fighters out there.I will recommend this game to any fighting fan who likes 2D fighters. This game has one of the best graphics,it looks like a cartoon.
I play this game with my Hori joystick, this game is not as fun with the normal controller.

Pros: well-balanced fighters, easy to do super moves, fun and easy to play, backgrounds are well drawn, story mode dialogue, not as frantic as MVC games, arcade perfect

Cons: no returning fighters except Terry, could use more modes, story mode dialogue

3.0 out of 5 stars A game more people should have played..., September 6, 2005

This review is from: Fatal Fury: Mark of The Wolves (Video Game)
Fatal Fury: Mark of Wolves - Circa 2001

GOOD:
- Good Balanced 2D fighter, considered a classic to many hardcore 2D fighting fans
- Really nice animations
- Finally SNK gets off it's butt and makes a fighting game with graphics that don't look like they belong in a museum

BAD:
- Graphics might be a little dated for some people
- Dreamcast Controller might not be up to the challenge this game provides

WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE:
- Not over the top like Guilty Gear X/X2, Marvel Vs Capcom, or Capcom Vs SNK
- Old School type game play and not combo heavy

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- King of fighters 2000 and up
- Street Fighter: Alpha 3

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- In the game the fighter Rock is the son of Geese the boss from the old Fatal Fury games and Terry's nemesis
- We can only hope SNK will remake this game or make an sequel
