Book Description

December 3, 2008
Twenty years ago, a group of doctors formed a partnership to build a medical office plaza in Massachusetts. While it wasn't the most above-board deal ever made, the doctors have found continued profit and success-until now. Someone wants the doctors dead, and he or she has already succeeded in murdering two of them. The identity of the killer remains unknown. Is it a madman with a vendetta against the medical profession, a small-time bookie seeking revenge for a shady real estate deal, or a disgruntled former construction manager who was unjustly fired? The widow of one of the slain doctors has a clue-but she's too afraid to tell the police. She hires Boston private investigator Daniel Gallagher to help track down the murderer. But as Gallagher begins to unravel the mystery, he finds himself entangled in a web of danger and political intrigue. With the stakes growing higher, Gallagher faces a growing threat to keep him quiet before he reveals the damaging truth. But when push comes to shove, has Gallagher made a Fatal Gamble?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fatal Gamble, January 9, 2009

This review is from: Fatal Gamble: A Novel (Paperback)
This novel is a real page turner! It grabs you from the first page. It is full of colorful characters who all seem "guilty" at one point or another. The author really keeps you guessing. Being from Massachusetts made me like the book even more because I was familiar with some of places mentioned. Definitely a great read! You won't be able to put it down! I highly recommend Fatal Gamble!

I love to read books that grab my attention fast and keep me there 'til the end. This book is what I love! Just the right amount of drama and suspense were packed into this thrilling book! I am very familiar with the area where the book took place and it was so cool to be able to visualize Gallagher being there! Keep it going! Thanks for the great read...give us more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfying Mystery Novel, September 16, 2009
This review is from: Fatal Gamble: A Novel (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed "Fatal Gamble", by JP O'Donnell. This is a tight multiple murder mystery, with the antagonist keeping up the pressure throughout the book.

The novel takes you into Boston, but also to Washington D.C. and Florida. All the clues are laid out clearly but there's always one piece that still needs to be connected, so you have to keep turning the pages.

Our hero, Detective Gallagher, is awesome. He is patient and methodical, but he can also carry the action. O'Donnell has created a character that I hope to see again.

Finally, I admit to being skeptical when I received this book (it was on my Wish List). It's self-published, by a local dentist. The book is well-constructed, but the size of the book wasn't the same as a regular paperback novel. It all felt "a little off." All that disappeared when I began reading. It's superbly written, and the pace is relentless. I finished it in two days, which is very fast for me.

I completely recommend this book! You won't be disappointed.
