Book Description

When destiny called, she pressed 1 for more options

With the name Robyn Fortune, shouldn't luck be a sure thing? Instead, black clouds love me. All I did was show up at a family bar mitzvah and cue lightning . . . this huge storm blew in.

My mom announced she was leaving my dad and moving in with me. (Perfect! More competition on JDate.) I found out my boss planned to fire me. (Help wanted: Be the exclusive makeup artist for a two-faced network news star.) My ex's gambling debts left me near bankruptcy. (Please buy our wedding gifts on craigslist.) But, good news. I was offered money to date a man who had worse luck than me. (Dear Visa, I hope you appreciate that I said yes.)

If not for my friend Rachel, I would have chickened out. Instead, I went to his apartment, spotted an old photo, and realized it was HIM! The boy I was mad for in college but never got to meet. And get this! Turns out our paths had been crossing since birth.

Coincidence or karma? Our finagling families wouldn't talk . . . until the day destiny sent me on a wild ride that became my long lost spiritual journey.

Ladies, take my advice. When fate knocks, answer the damn door!

1.0 out of 5 stars Who would of thought a comedian could be so depressing, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Fate and Ms. Fortune: A Novel (Paperback)
I got this book thinking it would be a fun read, I was very very wrong. For being about a comedian, it was one of the most depressing books I've read in a long time. Page and page of disappointments and a male lead that left much to be desired. At the end I didn't even want them together, despite all the "fate" talk.
Trust me if you want a good read just keep on looking because this book is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully witty creation, engages reader from page one!, August 31, 2006

Arlene Millman "chyron24" (Huntington, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fate and Ms. Fortune: A Novel (Paperback)
This is the third book I've read, by the ever witty Saralee Rosenberg. Every book has been a home run, although dealing with different issues. A delightfully witty creation, Fate and Ms Fortune deals with marital discord and compulsive gambling, generously sprinkled with the ever present humorous and zany perceptions of the author. Why are her books so appealing? I believe it is because her character development is real and palpable, and her plots are sufficiently convoluted to keep the pages turning. Meanwhile, she delves into supernatural issues, in an entertaining and non threatening manner. Loved this book, although it was a little different from the prior two. Hope she can write them as quickly as I can read them! Keep up the good writing. You are a talented gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saralee's Best Yet, September 3, 2006
This review is from: Fate and Ms. Fortune: A Novel (Paperback)
I always love reading Saralee, but this one is particularly satisfying. Trademark relentless humor firmly in place, this novel also treats pathos with sensitivity. You can't help but root for the heroine, her family and friends, regardless of their eccentricities, which Saralee makes thoroughly sympathetic. An absolutely great read; highly recommended!
