5.0 out of 5 stars Man Oh Man!!!
Great read, fast, steady pace. Good character development, I like the way Ms. Alers incorporated the Whitfield Brides in the story so that we could keep in touch with them. The chemistry between Kyle and Ava seemed to jump off the page at you. Well written, But some of the description on the back of the book does not apply. Other than that the book was really good...

3.0 out of 5 stars It was Ok
I have been a Rochelle Alers fan for years and I usually love all of her books. This one was just ok. The chemistry between Kyle and Ava just didn't jump off the page for me. They had what a would consider a slow comfortable friendship and the love between them grew to a rumble, but not the usual explosion. Like I said the story was ok, but not one of my favorites. I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking a Leap of Faith, May 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Man of Faith is the first book of the trilogy and I have to tell you that this book is wonderful. The characters of this book just jump off the page at you from the beginning and I tell it doesn't stop until the end of the book.

Ava Warrick is a Social Worker who is on her way to hospital to see one of her clients when she runs into the back of Kyle Chatham vintage Jaguar. As Kyle get out to look at he damage of his car and Ava he notice that Ava is hurt and need to be taken to the hospital.

From the moment Kyle lay eyes of Ava he knew he wanted to get to know Ava and for some reason felt the need to become her protector.

Ava is sassy, intelligent, independent woman who has had two disaster of a relationship and she has put up a wall around her heart and decided not to date until Kyle. Kyle is the kind of man who is honest, loyal, a gentlemen at all time and the more Ava come at him the more he shows her that she will not scare him away because she doesn't want to be hurt.

Kyle befriend Ava and slowly break down that wall around her heart and although they have little disagreement within the book they manage to smooth thing over in a quickly manner. I tell you I enjoy Kyle so much and him and Ava are great together.

In the book when Kyle was telling Ava about his parents the way his mother describe his father was by saying that he was her "romance---novel hero, and I tell when I read that part that is exactly how to describe Kyle as a Novel Hero. Ladies you are going to love this man, and if Duncan & Ivan are anything like Kyle their books are going to be off the chain.

A must read and I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luv to read, June 12, 2009
I would just like to say that I absolutely LOVED Man of Fate. Rochelle Alers has done it again. From the moment I started reading the story I couldn't put the book down. It was just a great reading from the beginning to the end. I actually didn't want to see the story end because I was looking for more. I can't wait to read the next installment to the series.

They had what a would consider a slow comfortable friendship and the love between them grew to a rumble, but not the usual explosion. Like I said the story was ok, but not one of my favorites. I still will be buy the other two books, because I'm curious about Ivan and Duncan too. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, because I have definitely read worst. I will give Ms. Alers her props because her work has most definitely grown from when I first started reading her books. The passions just was that hot in this story. It not about an abundance of sex, its about chemistry and I just didn't really feel it in this book. It doesn't mean it wasn't a good story, because I did enjoy as I do all Ms. Alers' books. Its just not one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars fabulous contemporary New York romance, June 6, 2009
Somewhat distracted as she is driving to an emergency meeting with a client, social worker Ava Warrick crashes into the vehicle driven by attorney Kyle Chatham. Instead of seeing her client, Ava ends up in the hospital with a concussion. Kyle takes responsibility to insure she gets the best care though he did not cause the accident. He believes fate led to a fender bender meeting, but Ava scoffs at his kismet theory.

Ironically, neither wants a relationship, but both are attracted to one another. Soon the attorney and the social worker begin to fall in love. However, whereas his feelings accentuate his belief they are destiny's darlings, she has doubts; he must persuade his beloved that he is her MAN OF FATE.

The first Best Men tale is a terrific contemporary that starts with a bang as Kyle and Ava learn a basic physics 101 lesson that two objects sharing the same place is a fender bender. As their relationship changes, they learn advanced physics in which two hearts beat as one. Clearly character driven (even inside his Jag), Rochelle Alers provides her audience with a fabulous contemporary New York romance and the anticipation that Kyle's best friends and brownstone partners Duncan and Ivan will soon follow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't see into the heart of the man..., June 24, 2009
I have been following Ms. Alers for a LONG time and I jumped at the chance of reading her summer trillogy. So far, this first book is a bit canned - couple is beautiful, afluent with the same kind of friends. Heroine of story plays hard to get and yet - the hero of the story really does not reveal why this woman should love him - besides his looks, success and money. Ms. Alers does a great job of describing Harlem and NYC. The fate cncept of two people getting in to a car accident and falling in love is believable - the rest is so canned. I am off to read the second book! Hopefully the plot will thicken up!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Read, June 15, 2009
I really enjoyed how Ava & Kyle's story progessed into friendship then romance. I also liked the cultural scenery of New York. This was a very nice read to curl up to. I look forward to Duncan & Ivan's stories as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Destiny", September 8, 2010
After reading "Man of Fate" I wanted to go out and have an accident and pray that the other driver was "Kyle Chatham". On the other end if you were to get rear ended, who better by than "Ava Warrick" Was this an accident by chance or was it their destiny?
You will enjoy it til the end.

2.0 out of 5 stars Man of fate?, June 21, 2010
The first in a series of three, successful, wealthy black friends who are as close as brothers and the way they find love. If the handsome, good, black men in the series were sold in shops the store would make billions lol. I did like how the romance started and how they met between Kyle and Ava, and the secondary plot about Jordan Wainwright, (hope he gets his own book) However something about the whole tale lacked that special something that a good modern AA romance needs.
The phone call that Ava overhears would have worked not so near to the end, that would have made a good conflict plot, plus Ava seemed to like arguing just for the sake of it. I agree with the reviews that put this in the 'just ok' category. Borrow the series from the library.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lose consciousness briefly brings love, February 11, 2010
By
A morning accident brings two totally different people together. Kyle was so into making sure that Ava was alright in the mist of it all he caught feelings for her. The swelling of her face cause him to get weak along with losing conscious in his arm. With all the madness once Ava awakes, Kyle stayed a gentleman with her crying about her car, but the accident was her fault. All of the peace, love and happiness that came from Kyle was so unreal to Ava. She's so use to dealing with butt wipes that she almost missed her prince in action. Both have had their dysfunctional relationships but Kyle was willing to take Ava for a test drive.

To me the characters was real but not so believable to the point were I had a favorite. It started off fast, got slow in the middle and at the end it got hot with cayenne pepper, spicy. I would have enjoyed some courtroom battle with Kyle clients. Especially with his new partner Jordan and his grandfather that was accused of beening a slum lord. There's a three series so I will be reading the next one really soon.
