Book Description

A huge fan of Jane Austen, Danielle hopes to find her own Mr. Darcy when she leaves Colorado to attend art school in London. Of course she knows it's silly to wish for that, naive even. But she's met enough males who lacked respect for women, a growing trend it seemed. And at nineteen...well.... However, on only her second night there she gets lost and is threatened by a stalker who proves to be immune to her martial arts training. Before she is completely overpowered, she is then saved by Ethan Deveroux.

While Danielle does find the romance she seeks in Ethan, he's no Mr. Darcy. Her hero is held by a spell which fractures their chance at a happy ending. During the day Ethan is closer to mortal than immortal and can date her like any other man. Yet, as the sun sets, the powerful magic of an ancient curse returns and the evil of that spell is revealed. When that magic begins, Danielle's fairytale romance ends because Ethan Deveroux is a vampire.

About the Author

Cheri is a mother of four beautiful girls, a wife to a loving computer geek, a writer, an artist, a photographer, a lover of words, and a lover of reading books. Cheri went to Brigham Young University in 1988 where she majored in photography and design. She has worked as a portrait photographer and artist for twenty years. She has only recently realized that she can share the stories constantly playing through her thoughts, and added writing to her list of creative endeavors. She always did well in English, but never realized she could write as her other talents seemed to overshadow that hidden skill. She has always had an interest in fairies, mermaids, vampires, witches, and, in truth, just about any type of fantasy or myth. She started out in elementary school drawing mermaids, fairies, and witches, and has since sold paintings of them on eBay. As computer technology advanced, she began digitally enhancing photographs into those magical creatures as well. When stories of these beings continued to entertain her thoughts, to the point of almost haunting her, she decided it was time to start writing them down. FATEFUL is her first finished work, though other stories had come to her before that. She has seven other books in the plans, including: some on vampires, some on fairies, and all of them with a romantic twist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! May 3, 2011

I REALLY enjoyed this book. I loved it! It was very well written. I am constantly on the look out for a really good story, with great characters, well developed plot and of course a melt your heart romance. Believe me it doesn't happen often. But I was soooo happy to find Fateful met and exceeded all of my criteria. I'm still smiling about it :). O.k as for the comments that it is a Twilight copy. Please. Yes there are some similarities. There is a vampire who is good, who falls in love with a human and there are some bad vampires. And that's about it. Everything else (which there is a lot more) is not only unique to Fateful but makes it so much more and different than anything else out there. Lastly, for all of us thousands of readers who were searching for something as good (if not better) to read after Twilight. This is IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Vampire Romance! Hot & Sweet! March 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I just finished "Fateful" and thought I should write a review before going on to the rest of the series. First of all, I just have to get this out of the way...I'm somewhat confused by the reviews that said the book was a Twilight copy, because nothing about the story (aside from the fact that it has vampires and romance) was similar. Okay, yes, it's a love story between a human girl and a vampire boy who wants to protect her. However, never for a moment, did I flash to "Twilight". I loved "Twilight" as a story in its own right, as much as I loved "Fateful", but I saw little actual comparison that people are speaking negatively of. It is similar to "Twilight" in the sense that there are hot vampire dudes and lots of really sweet romance. Therefore, if you like stories like that, you'll love this!

The romance was well-written and so very hot (in a clean YA way). I was feeling the characters' passion for each other and swooning the entire time. If you love sweet romances, you'll like Danielle and Ethan's story. Ch. 8 was probably my favorite. I could envision myself right there with the characters! The descriptions are breathtaking.

The writing really makes you feel like you're part of the story. In fact, it made me wish I was in London with Ethan...Sigh! The vampire lore (as well as that of the other creatures) is so unique. I found some great twists, especially the comparison between vampires during the day and those at night. I also liked that the setting of the story took place far away from Danielle's comfort-zone, especially since she's so prone to getting lost.

I really enjoyed the dialogue - it was so well-written, as were the action scenes. The story was long. In a good way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly awesome! February 16, 2012
By Natalie
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fateful has everything I love in a book:

*vampires (I never get enough)
*romance
*mature characters
*fantastic setting
*no love triangle
*very likable side characters
*no foul language
*nothing crude / clean read
*great writing / error free
*lovable hero (addressed below)

Ethan is more believable than most characters that are supposed to have lived many years. I love that the author was able to convey this. The things he says and does fit a character from a different time. I also love his manners and the respect he has for Danielle.

Fateful has made Cheri Schmidt one of my favorite self-published authors. She even has a great blog and website where she sells autographed copies of her beautiful books and jewlery inspired by the Fateful trilogy. I love book inspired jewlery! A well-deserved 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! April 22, 2011
By Tifferz
Format:Kindle Edition
Okay guys we have a Must read new author Cheri Schmidt. I can honestly say I love this book and can't wait till the next two come out! Yup we are lucky this is the first book in the three book series! I was quickly pulled into this story and loved every minute of it. Cheri is a very creative writer and knows how to tell a story. This book contains magic, vampires (good and evil) lots of passionate kissing (this is a clean romance), fairies, suspense and some unexpected twists! This book is for everyone. I really enjoyed how Cheri told a modern day story with an excellent plot and romance. You will not want to put this book down. Worth every penny. A must to own. I will be reading this one again very soon. As I can't seem to get the story out of my mind!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars OMG, this book was dreadful!! July 26, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Boring, boring, boring. Some of it is just ridiculous. Considering Ethan is supposed to be over a hundred years old, he acts like a jerky teenager. Case in point: he allows her to get spellbound by another guy and pass out at a party, and laughs about it. He keeps doing cool things like treating her like a princess, and then stupid things like that, back and forth. Early on, she gets attacked in his home by another vampire (Celeste) and is seriously injured, and then the only thing they tell her later is that "don't worry, she's not invited to the party." And then she just says ok, and keeps going back to his house, not knowing if that Celeste is around?? That doesn't make any sense. If I was attacked and seriously injured by ANYONE, I would want to know they were dealt with by whatever authorities are available to do so.

And what was so important about her attending this ball and getting all dressed in their special clothes? No one wanted her there or treated her nicely, and of course there was the inevitable "oops, I broke a glass then cut myself trying to clean it up" business. Come ON!!

This book was all this fluffed up nonsense that made no sense and was totally unsatisfying to read. Whoever liked this book... I'm not sure what they found interesting about long descriptions of what food tasted like, or boring annoying conversations that went nowhere, or situations that were obviously contrived just to set up some kind of conflict... but none of it flowed. It sucked.

Some young adults will like this book. It can not compete with the Twilight series but some will enjoy it. I was not very impressed with the way it was written.
