Product Description

Celebrate the platinum anniversary (1991 ? 2011) of the unforgettable comedy classic Father of the Bride plus the uproarious follow-up Father of the Bride Part II on Blu-ray for the first time ever. Screen legends Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short star in these warm and witty family favorites, complete with a new digital restoration! Things get out of hand for befuddled father George Banks (Martin) when his young daughter unexpectedly announces her plans to wed. Life gets even crazier in the sidesplitting sequel when his daughter and his wife (Keaton) both announce they are pregnant, and George desperately tries to capture the wild and crazy days of his youth. Relive every heartwarming and hilarious moment in this special 2-movie collection. It's fantastic family entertainment that really delivers!

Father of the Bride

This '90s update of the Spencer Tracy-Elizabeth Taylor hit is a mix of the pleasant and the silly, a nice enough movie but a little too controlled to become particularly interesting. Steve Martin plays the aging patriarch who is threatened by his daughter's engagement and not-quite-willing to let her go. The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers provides Martin's character with a perhaps too-broad range of comic responsiveness to the situation, some of it gentle (a ritual game of basketball between dad and his little girl) and some of it slapstick (Martin sneaking around his prospective in-laws' house and encountering a guard dog). Martin Short turns up as a wedding coordinator--which has deliriously delicious possibilities--but his inventiveness doesn't quite strike the chord this time. --Tom Keogh

Father of the Bride Part 2

Everybody important from the first film, including the writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers, regroups for this sequel involving a pair of pregnancies. Steve Martin's patriarch has a crisis when his married daughter (Kimberly Williams) is with child, and an even bigger one when his middle-aged wife (Diane Keaton) announces that another bambino is on the way. Martin Short is more effectively used this time around (he played the wedding coordinator in the first film), and while this movie's inevitable climax has both women giving birth on the same chaotic night, the overall effect of the film is less contrived than its predecessor. --Tom Keogh

3.0 out of 5 stars Great movies, not so great DVDs August 1, 2001
By A Customer
These are both wondeful movies, probably among my favorites, but I'm very disappointed with the DVDs. There are no special features. Is it really worth the money for the movie alone? This 2-pack is a great deal but I'm hesitant to buy it because I wonder if they'll be following up shortly with new special edition versions that include some features. That would be much more worth the money. With the feautures that are now included in most DVDs (even just deleted scenes would have been better) this is very disappointing.

In 1950, the American comedy "Father of the Bride" directed by Vicente Minnelli and starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, Elizabeth Taylor was a big success in the box office and nominated for several Academy Awards. The film would inspire a sequel titled "Father's Little Dividend" in 1951.

Fast forward over 40-years later and a remake of the film co-written and directed by Charles Shyer ("Alfie", "The Parent Trap", "The Odd Couple") and starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Martin Short was released in 1991 and earned over $89 million in the box office. And like the original film, would also inspire a remake of the sequel titled "Father of the Bride Part II" featuring the original cast and would go on to earn over $76 million in the box office.

And now both films will be release together on Blu-ray courtesy of Touchstone Home Entertainment.

"Father of the Bride" and "Father of the Bride: Part II" were released back in the 1990's. The video quality is much better than the previous DVD. While there is a good amount of grain and even some noise considering the age of this film, including some scenes that look soft, there were also scenes that featured a lot of detail. From the skin pores that can be seen on Steve Martin's face to the vibrant colors that can be seen throughout the film, there is definitely an upgrade in quality video-wise.

As for audio, "Father of the Bride" and "Father of the Bride: Part II" is presented in English 5.1 DTS HD-MA and French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 2.0 Dolby Digital.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great family fun. August 22, 2010
By eswan
These are the modern remakes of 2 classics, yet I actually like these more. I don't seem to ever tire of seeing them. Both are heartfelt and very funny, well made entertainment. Steve Martin does his best work here. Martin Short is hilarious. The Banks' are the kind of family every girl (or boy) wishes they had. Even the inlaws are fun. For a good time, I recommend them. Enjoy! :-D

2.0 out of 5 stars Not-so-Good Release June 16, 2013
By Faisal
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
This is a review for the Blu-ray release not the movie itself.

This release is a disappointment. I don't like the idea of two movies on one Blu-ray disc, and then adding two DVDs. I would prefer a release with two separate Blu-ray discs one for each movie, without the DVDs. However, the picture quality is not bad.
Another disappointment was it mentioned in the back cover that it has commentary in the Part II (sequel) DVD. I did NOT find any commentary when I played it! But if you really like the movies get this release.

After viewing Father Of The Bride One, which we watched countless times, we were anxious to see Father Of The bride Two. It was as funny, as heartwarming, and as enjoyable as the first movie. Steve Martin always comes through in comedies, and part two had just as much laugh-out-loud entertainment as the first movie. This is a family fun movie that is so enjoyable, it has not only become one of our favorites, but is a classic to us in comedy. The movies highlight the importance of family values, and love as the stories tug at your heart. Refreshing, heartwarming, funny, and enjoyable family entertainment. Highly recommended!
