4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music
Father of the Bride is one of my favourite movies, and I also love the music. It is mostly "background" music and it's very relaxing and beautiful to listen to. However, I agree with one of the other comments that mentioned the lack of the other songs. I wish it had My Girl, The Boy I'm Gonna Marry, and Chapel of Love among others. That would have made it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the rest of the music?!!
I bought this soundtrack assuming it contained all the music from the movie--so I'll take the blame for not getting what I expected. I should have paid more attention to the contents and the length of the CD. What's there is good, but it certainly is NOT the soundtrack one would expect to get. I should have paid more attention to the contents and the length of the CD. What's there is good, but it certainly is NOT the soundtrack one would expect to get. Where are all those "oldies" that made Father of the Bride such an entertaining movie? And why is such a short CD (less than half the length of most CDs) priced right up there with much longer CDs? Surely there's a "real" FOTB soundtrack out there somewhere! This one should be called "Very, Very Short Tidbits from Father of the Bride"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the "negative reviews", February 8, 2005
This review is from: Father Of The Bride: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This CD is not meant for those who want lyrical songs only. I am using #1 for my wedding as the ceremony entrance....and it's beautiful. Also, if you like the song "The Way You Look Tonight" the version by Steve Tyrell is wonderful. It's a sentimental CD....for those of us who saw it when we were younger and dreamed of the day we were getting married. Each song has a special moment connected to the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Movie and Music, May 13, 2005
This review is from: Father Of The Bride: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Any of the negative comments on here are absolutely ludicrous! This is a beautiful film and an even more wonderful soundtrack! Of course the music is mostly instrumental, it's a SOUNDtrack, as in the sounds from the movie, if you prefer words buy a pop CD. This film is one of the best wedding films of all time portraying the love of a family and how close their ties are through the wonderful occasion of a wedding and the music does nothing but tie in every emotion and sentiment perfectly, making it all the more heart warming. I first saw this movie as a little girl and something as miniscule as a few notes from this beautiful soundtrack still have a power that melts my heart. I can't wait to utilize it someday in my own wedding as I have recently gotten engaged and if you are looking for something to evoke all those emotions I highly suggest purchasing this SOUNDtrack!

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and sweet score, February 19, 2003

Alan Silvestri has a tender side and this score really displays that wonderful quality. This is music that makes you feel good and is light hearted and gentle in nature. "Main Title" contains material similar to what Silvestri used in "Grumpy Old Men" and its sequel, "Grumpier Old Men." Needless to say, it is a great theme that utilizes the first 4 notes of "Here comes the bride." Then Silvestri's 6 note theme for strings takes the stage and is a real delight. Bits and pieces of this theme and the 4 note motif find themselves creeping into the score in just about every track in some form or another. In addition to those themes, Silvestri utilizes a lovely theme for Annie played on the oboe. "Snooping Around", "Drive to Brunch", and "Pool Cue" contain amusing chase bits in the music. The rest of the score tracks basically play out versions of the main theme lightly on piano and strings. "End Credit" is basically the same as "Main Title", with the same themes, except a quote of the traditional wedding march is heard in addition. An excerpt of Pachelbel's "Canon", a popular wedding march and a song by Steve Tyrell, "The Way You Look Tonight" are also included. A negative thing about this soundtrack is that only 29 minutes of music exist. Taking out "Canon" and the Steve Tyrell song and reprise track, that leaves only about 20 or so minutes of score. I recommend finding this score used if at all possible because of the short length. Despite that, a nice effort by Alan Silvestri, who pulls at all of the heart strings with this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Rest of the Music?, October 29, 1998

The tracks on the CD are good, but I really wanted the entire soundtrack--all those songs from the past that made the movie so much fun. My fault; I should have read the cover more carefully, or at least have added the track times. You don't get much music for your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Father Of The Bride: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
All of the music on the CD is very nice and relaxing. It always brings back some moments to my mind from my favorite movie. I do wish that it had "Chapel of love" and "Today I met the boy I'm gonna marry" like the movie had. I do love the Pachelbel Canon and am thankful that the CD has it on there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Has the Makings of a Classic, June 2, 2006
This review is from: Father Of The Bride: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
If this score were a bit deeper, and around 25 minutes longer, it would be a classic in it's genre. As it stands, it is a very good, (short) companion to a book and a cup of coffee, or perhaps an evening drive.

Some of the songs are jazzy and smooth, others are up tempo and remind one strongly of a Christophe Beck or John Debney score. I definately reccomend giving this a listen, (if only it were longer...)

Although it didn't have the other songs that some people want, that is why you look over the song titles BEFORE you buy. I think it is a great album and I highly recommend it. It takes you back to the movie and it is a beautiful score.

1.0 out of 5 stars very diappointing, January 2, 2003
This review is from: Father Of The Bride: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I was incredibly disappointed. I loved the movie and all the great music in it, and wanted the soundtrck because I recently became engaged myself. It was mainly the background music, except for two songs. I wanted "My Girl" , "Chapel of Love" not 30-90 second blips of background music. I would definitely not buy this if you were hoping for all the great oldies loves songs that were in the movie.
