Book Description

March 1, 2002
Father Frank Browne became famous in the wake of the Titanic disaster when his photographs, the only ones of the ship in sail, were used by newspapers all over the world to illustrate articles about the sinking. In 1997, Wolfhound Press published, for the first time, the collection of photographs and the book, Father Browne s Titanic Album, stayed on the Irish Times bestseller list for six months and reached number twenty-four on The New York Times bestseller list as The Last Days of the Titanic. French, Hungarian, and Japanese editions followed, making Browne s name internationally known.

This new collection of photographs brings together a huge store of images of the great liners of the first half of the twentieth century the Titanic, Britannic, Mauritania, and the Luisitania with the lesser working vessels, such as ferries, mailboats, and tugs, and the people who worked and traveled on them. Separated into sections such as working, entertainment, and travelers, this book captures for posterity a form of travel and a way of living that, to a large extent, died out in the second half of the century.
