Inspiring,
By lavette wilson "yada yada" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Father Fracture (Paperback)
When I first picked up this book, I saw that the author's face was on the book cover, which made me think that she is very vain. I assume she was one of those pretty women looking for fame and fortune. One of those women that wrote a book to make a quick buck, or to get celebrity status But once I opened the book and started to read it I realized that she is a normal everyday woman like myself. I was shocked to learn that she knew so many stars on a personal basis because the book description only talked about her first love who was a regular everyday jerk, and Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson, apparently caught her at a time in her life when she had very low self esteem. So many woman grow up and become victims of things like this because they were taught early in life that they are not good enough. I grew up in a household where my mom and dad were constantly telling me how great I was and how wonderful my life was going to be. I have very high self esteem so it was hard for me to relate to the author but I do have so many girlfriends who have the lowest self esteem ever. I bought this book for my best friend who is also in an abusive relationship but when I read the back cover I became so interested that I decided I would buy several more copies, and keep one to read the book first. It was an easy read only 240 'ish pages so I finished it in just two days. There were so many parts of the book that were disturbing to me because I wondered how the author, or any woman could be so foolish as to stay in a relationship where you were getting hurt so bad that it damaged your skin. But again my life growing up was different, so I guess I was really lucky.Mike Tyson, is a sick guy who really needs help. I always knew that but after reading the book I realized even more so that he was a damaged product. There were several pictures throughout the book of the author with famous people who were her client. This made the book more entertaining for me because again, this book was not for me since I have never been abused, but I think after reading it I feel that you could read this book and find a piece of you in it whether you have been abused or not. The author she somehow managed to get her life together toward the end of the story and became a well known publicist so that was encouraging for me because my friend is in a similar situation and I hope that she will somehow read this book and change her life around. So I would say this was an excellent read and a must read it you are or know someone in an abusive relationship

A touching story,

This review is from: The Father Fracture (Paperback)
Many people are familiar with the abusive relationship between Mike Tyson and his ex-wife, Robin Givens. Many people also are aware of the time he spent in jail for raping the beauty pageant contestant in Chicago. There were also many reports that these two women were not his only victims. Meet Pam Pinnock, one of Tyson's victims. Pam Pinnock found the courage to write about her abusive relationships with men in her adult life and the abuse and abandonment she suffered at the hands of her own father.
Reading Pinnock's does prove that no matter who you are, how much money you earn, where you live, you too can become a victim of domestic violence. Pam is now a well known publicist who represents people such as Jay Z, John Legend, Ludacris, and Gucci Mane. Her story was fascinating to me and one any victim and survivor of domestic violence can relate to. Her book is well written and she is very candid about all she went through. While reading her story, you may ask yourself why in the world a woman (or man for that matter) would allow themselves be put through so horrible acts of verbal and physical abuse. Unless you have been a victim yourself, it is hard to understand. Pam helps us realize why most women stay with an abusive partner. You feel trapped, you are verbal beat down, you feel you are useless and are usually told that on so many occasions as Pam was. What really amazed me was that she was in two abusive relationships at the same time! I will not reveal any more about that subject. You will have to read it yourself! There are few books I read about people's personal stories of domestic violence that make me put the book down at certain points because a scene caused me to have a trigger of a memory. Pam's way of writing can strike a pain in your heart. There were several scenes I did have to lay the book aside and catch myself. I highly recommend anyone who ever wondered about what domestic violence is like to read this book. It is also a great source of inspiration to those who are currently being victimized to see that there is a way out from what you are going through and you are not the only one who is going through what you are right now. http://www.bellaonline.com/site/domesticviolence

Encouraging,

This review is from: The Father Fracture (Paperback)
This book was excellent. I was surprised that this beautiful strong woman endured such abuse, and cruelty. I'm glad that the author decided to tell her story to the world, instead of allowing her past to hold her captive. This book would be very encouraging to women, or men that have been in abusive relationships. I'm normally not a book reader, but the introduction captured my attention. Once I started reading the book, I found that I could not put it down. I read the book in a matter of two days. The book was well written. I have recommended this book to several friends; it is a great gift to give to someone that is, or have been in an abusive relationship. Hopefully after reading this book, more people will speak out and tell their story. I look forward to seeing "The Father Fracture" on a best sellers list, I also look forward to reading more books from this author. Great job Pam Pinnock.
