why father Gander is such a great book,

I am an 18 year old who got this book when I was little and i have treasured it ever since. This book only seeks to redo rhymes that can be bad influences on children not ones like twinkle twinkle little star this book works to help children feel good if you look in the illistrations you can find pictures of all kinds of people. people from different races and people with disablities all participating and working together. This book is a great book for kids to help promote values.

This book is wonderful for minority children! My child is Black, and can relate to the characters dipicted on the pages. Finally there exists a book of nursery rhymes, that does not ignore the fact that all children are not caucasion. 2 thumbs up I say!

As a 70-year old grandmother and veteran of political correctness mandates, I was prepared to dislike this book intensely! BUT, I read it with my grandchildren, and now I feel - it is about time we had something like Father Gander! I am purchasing it for all babies from now on!

I am a preschool teacher and I think this book is a very good book. It is up to the parent if thier children should know the classic Mother Goose versions first or not.
As for the negative reviews, I don't really see where they are coming from. What is wrong with a gender-equal, nutritionally correct, and environmentally aware book? Perhaps we should shelter our children? I love the user comment that quotes the Twinkle Twinkle rhyme as if it were negative. If you aren't teaching your children about pollution and conservation, then you aren't a good parent. Period.

i met father gander today at our local libary and he had this book with him. All I can say is wow. I came straight home and bought 2 copys. I would recomend this book to eveyone!

This is a wonderful update to the old-fashioned Mother Goosenursery rhymes. Father Gander keeps the spirit and charm of theverses, but changes or adds to them to make them more in keeping withtoday's values and standards.

This book has the original rhyme, followed by the "rest of the story" making it fair for both genders without taking away the fun.
For example, "Jill and Jack went up the track, to finish what they'd begun..."

The politics of this book don't come on as a suble hint, they hit you over the head with a grand piano effect.The sheer intensity of the re-written effort to infuse gender into every verse could not be made into a parody - it already is its' own joke on itself.

To right this wrong, he (hmmmm, is that sexist?) presents us with gender-varied, physically-challenged-friendly, multi-cultural fairlyand filled with gender-neutral, all-inclusive, environmentally and nutritionally aware mush. After stating that "nursery rhymes can be a powerful socializing force in children" our author seeks to right society's wrongs through rewriting nursery rhymes."Twinkle twinkle little star, How I wonder what you are, Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky. "If the sky stays pure and clean, We will see your twinkle bright, But smoke, exhaust, and acid rain All will cloud your flickering light.
