Book Description

September 26, 2006
A beautifully written and moving account of the author’s search for the man his father was, and the life he led as a well-known footballer at a time when the men who played the game, and those who watched it, led fundamentally the same lives together in the same communities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and moving, March 23, 2009

This review is from: My Father and Other Working Class Football Heroes (Paperback)
Imlach's book is a wonderful recollection of a bygone age and (without being pinched, cynical or critical) shows us what the creep of money into sports has given, and what is has taken away. Heartily recommended to any fan of sports.

Thought I'd help out with the ratings here given that Amazon would not change the other chap's message. Imlach's book really is tremendously well written. I loved it. It definitely belongs in the beautiful game book pantheon...

A great read if you're interested in how the game of football was run in England in the 1950s and the early 1960s and what it was like to be a professional footballer in this time period.
