THE FATHER still has the power to astonish. About the Author

August Strindberg (1849-1912) is best-known for his misogyny and as the author of Miss Julie (1889). His first success came as a novelist and autobiographer. His plays (and he wrote over sixty) were deeply controversial in their time and still are to some extent. They range form bold naturalism (e.g. The father, 1887) to an entralling expressionism (e.g. The Ghost Sonata, 1907).

It's a fascinating play, laying bare the relationships, at that time, between the sexes. Chilling in its portrayals. If you're a man and about to get married - don't read this!

After writing the Red Room and several other wonderful books, Father is really one of Strindberg's most fantastic work. It is stunning how a person can describe human beings in the way Strindberg does, or did, since he past away over 80 years ago... Just buy it and read it.
