4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent language arts resource
This package included about 40 different worksheets/tools for a novel study of My Fathers Dragon. A few themes touched on were: rainforest wildlife, growing ferns, overcoming fear and travel. There are also vocabulary lists for your word wall And strips for sequencing events and conversations. I wished there had been art ideas and dragon templates that I could further...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for classrooms -- May not be age appropriate
I bought this book to use homeschooling my daughter. However, it's geared to teaching styles I don't employ at home.

That said, as a former 4th grade teacher, I don't think I would have used this in the classroom, either. Mainly because the activities in the book seem to be aimed at students who are older than those for whom the novel is intended. I would...

This review is from: A Guide for Using My Father's Dragon in the Classroom (Literature Unit (Teacher Created Materials)) (Paperback)

I would recommend the novel for 1st-2nd graders, but the tests and worksheets seemed to be more for 4-5th graders.

Also, I was hoping for more activities and discussion starters, and most of the book is fill-in-the-blank and tests. I'm glad I waited to get this book before ordering more in the series.

There are also vocabulary lists for your word wall And strips for sequencing events and conversations. I wished there had been art ideas and dragon templates that I could further work with. However I did appreciate that many of the worksheets are designed for a skill and not necessarily this specific book, so I can use them in other novel studies. Arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
