Fathers and Daughters,
This review is from: Fathers and Daughters (Paperback)
B-O-R-I-N-G! Only one story is actually by Diana Gabaldon, and a very short one, at that. I was very disappointed that she was promoted so prominently, and contributed so little. The other stories are by current best-selling authors, but that's not why I bought it. Can you say Rip-off?

Fathers &Daughers(Diana Gabaldon),
By A Customer
This review is from: Fathers and Daughters (Paperback)
I was very disappointed in this book. I had expected that 3 authors would write of their experiences, not 11. I can say that the only one that I found interesting was the one by Diana Gabaldon and several were so uninteresting that I didn't finish reading them.I agree with a previous review - this book played on Diana Gabaldon's wonderful reputation and I am sure she would be disappointed in the finished product....

overly sentimental,
This review is from: Fathers and Daughters: A Celebration in Memoirs, Stories, and Photographs (Hardcover)
I'd bought this book because it had stories in it by Diana Gabaldon and Carole Nelson Douglas. Other than the fact that it makes my collections of their works complete, I should have saved my money.
It's an anthology version of sappy, over-sentimental stories you might find in the Father's Day letters to the editor section of any newspaper, or expanded versions of the sentiments you find on the serious Father's Day cards, and the fact that the stories/memoirs were all written by bestselling authors didn't make them any more interesting. Frustratingly, even though I only read one story at a time, interspersing other books between the stories, they still ran together--to me, it felt as though they were all written about 2 or maybe 3 fathers. Which could be because the authors are mostly contemporaries. Seems like all the fathers were uncommunicative, but fair, and all of them were into playing baseball. They were all pretty much stereotypical fathers of the 40s and 50s. Ho-hum. I suppose some of my cynicism comes from my distant relationship with my own father, but I am not a fan of sentimentalism, regardless how it's directed.

Not to be missed,

I loved this book! It is written by many well known authors about their relationships wth their father. Some true some not. All the stories were touching and some made me cry. I have read this book twice and had my father read it also. Father / Daughter relationships are among the strongest bonds in the world and this book proves it. I think everyone should read this book. It not only reconfirms your love of your father but makes you think twice about those times when you thought you didn't love him at all. I will definetly pass this book on to my daughter when she is old enogh to appreciate the love of her father.

Memories are needed...,

This review is from: Fathers and Daughters: A Celebration in Memoirs, Stories, and Photographs (Hardcover)
Memories are needed to keep us focused on what is ahead. We remember the people who have gotten us to the point we are at today...fathers are always at the top of the list, especially for daughters. This book allows us to share in so many memories through the stories provided and often triggers us to remember things we thought we had forgotten...a very enjoyable book to read. I recommend it highly as perhaps a gift to yourself or your father. It is a 'warm fuzzy' book, making you feel good inside.

Future father of daughters!,

I have read this book a while back, but I find the father-daughter relationship very interesting, as I have met many females who are more like their fathers than their mothers, characterwise. Whether or not a female will admit it, she is affected by her father or stepfather in countless ways. This cannot be emphasized enough, especially in today's day and age. Daughters need to be raised by both parents, including a father.
