The death of his ex-wife gives Daniel Gregory the sole care of his hearing impaired daughter. The responsibility is overwhelming. He struggles to watch out for Sarah while building an addition to his small hotel, but even the presence of a babysitter doesn't prevent the little girl from wandering off. She's found by Leigh Christopher and her precocious niece and nephew. Leigh's easy rapport with Sarah spurs Daniel to offer her the job of caring for Sarah during the day. Leigh needs a new job, however, it isn't the simple decision it appears. Leigh's career as a teacher was curtailed when she was fired for becoming too involved in the life of a student. Her sense of failure has made her vow to leave teaching altogether and definitely not get involved with another needy child. Sarah is too hard to resist. Leigh's daily care for his daughter puts her in frequent contact with Daniel. Neither can deny the attraction between them. But Daniel has his own defeat to battle in the area of relationships, and he frequently disagrees with Leigh about what's best for Sarah. The situation is worsened by the arrival of Daniel's visiting sister-in-law. Her view of Sarah's potential and Leigh's are opposed. Leigh's opinion alienates Daniel just as she realizes her love for him. Will taking a stand for what she believes separate them forever? A Father's Promise is part of Steeple Hill's Love Inspired series. The characters are engaging with the children often stealing the show! The religious aspect is more in line with that of the television show Touched By An Angel, which should encourage anyone wary of an Inspirational romance to try this one. You'll like it! Daniel wants the best for his little girl, but he doesn't know how to give of himself.
Leigh gives of herself, but she gives too much, people including her sister take advantage of this.
Sarah is deaf, and she wants Leigh, she does what it takes to get Leigh, and her daddy together, they haven't a chance as a snowflake in the Amazon.
This is one of the best books by Marta Perry, both male and female charaters are strong, with just enough weakness to be human.

I had to read this one in a day, it was so good! It wasn't just the romance aspects of it. The story of Little Sarah and the damage that had been done to her was heart wrenching, as was the hurt her father was feeling. I loved how Leigh took both Sarah and Daniel under her wing and healed them!!!

Of course neither was easy, and Leigh had to overcome many problems, but she did it and very bravely. I love the fact that Sarah and Daniel found love and got married! What a great story!!!
