I love this group this is a good cd. This cd contains some good songs but it is missing "Up Against the Wall". How in the world can they put out the best of without "Up Against the Wall" I am giving the Band 5 stars; but I am giving the cd 4 stars because it is lacking a lot of good songs.

Not many people realize it, but "King Tim III: Personality Jock" was actually the first rap song ever released. Most people assume it's "Rapper's Delight," which actually came out later the same month."King Tim" is actually a pretty damn funky song; although the rapping is primarily at the beginning and in the middle. There are some serious funk jams on this record that still sound fresh. If you're a fan of old-school funk, this is a must-have. Plus, you can impress friends and loved ones by explaining to them that only educated musicologists know that "King Tim" was the first rap song...

from go-go to hip hop and funk,

this group was typical of the 70's if you wanted to be respected you had to have all the goods.and they had latin influence, funk, pop, soul, hip hop before it had a name and the classic go-go sound.i like the girls is as great as a example as you can get to put this into motion.this group had grooves for days&nights.backstroke used to rock at the old skateing ring i used to go to.that was an ultimate tribute cuz not every jam made the ring.but plenty of theres did.

I'll admit that I gave the complimation a bad review at first because I didn't take time to really listen to band's music. To say that their music is weak is totally inaccurate after repeated listenings. Eventhough the group is somewhat deritative in terms having a singular musical identity, their grooves are heavy and hypnotic and demands your attention upon hearing them.Fatback may've never released any memorable albums that were being released Slave, Cameo, Rick James and others at the time, but their songs were just as great as theirs and since they had a longer lifespan than most funk bands, they were able to add more great songs to their catalog than other funk bands. In other words if you are indeed looking for a hidden funk treasure I strongly recommend this complimation or any other great fatback complimation for listening pleasure. it's a 4.5 star complimation and should not be missed.

I'm tired of everybody praising Funkadelic and Ohio Players to the exclusion of all else....there are many unsung heroes of funk that are just as funky as Funkadelic/Parliament.Good music is good if it moves you, regardless of whether it borrows from something else or not. Fatback made great records, a lot of which are just as good as Funkadelic or Ohio Players. Originality is overrated...a lot of truly original artists are unlistenable. btw--Fatback's 80's output is fantastic. So what if it's a bit conventional? Conventionality is a good thing...basic song structures are a good thing. Funk is funk..PERIOD [...].

I just recently bought The Fattest Of Fatback and this is one awesome collection of music from the 70's to the early 1980's.Though,I'm not too crazy about their love jams, everything else is excellent and that includes"Yum,Yum",Spanish Hustle,I Like Girls,King Tim,Money,Backstrokin,Take It Any way you want it,etc...I recommend this to others.

"Fattest" Is Slim,
This review is from: Fattest of Fatback (Audio CD)
Admittedly, most compilation albums are an exercise in frustration because an artist's music will resonate with each listener in a different way and to different degrees. Therefore, we look for two basic things on compilations: (a) full-length versions of what is included; and (b) no egregious omissions (even though this second factor depends on licensing availability to some degree). This compilation of Fatback (aka The Fatback Band) disappoints on both counts because it includes edited version of key tracks (including the underground classic "Spanish Hustle") and omits "Goin' To See My Baby" (which is included on The Funk Box compilation, released several years later). What saves this collection is the inclusion of full versions "King Tim III" and "I Found Lovin'". If you're really into this artist, though, we recommend purchasing the original albums wherever available.

I was surprised how clean and crisp the band still sounds,my friends could not stop going oh no they didnt. When they heard I Like The Girls again every word was sung by everybody then i put on I Found Love and it was all over. They rocked the house. The music brought on discussions of the good old past.wine women songs. What a blessing.
