This review is from: Fatty's Suitless Day (1914) (DVD)
Fatty's Suitless Day, 1914 filmFatty and his girl read a newspaper about a Benefit Dance: "Tango Whirl" "Strictly Full Dress". Poor Fatty doesn't have Evening Clothes. What will he do? He borrows money from his hard-working mother. [Note the top knot hair style.] Fatty decides to "borrow" a suit hanging on a clothes lien. [Does Fatty's outfit and walk remind you of the "Reginald Van Gleason" character from 1950s television?] Note the style of dancing used by each couple. But Fatty's rival has a plan to get even by removing his pants! The crowd laughs at this spectacle. Next the jacket goes. There is a fight, his rival pulls a gun and starts shooting (an inexhaustible number of bullets). Fatty flees outside only to be attested and struck by a policeman. A funny ending? This would be better with audio to explain some of the events. [Note the familiarity with pistols.] Roscoe Arbuckle had a sudden fall from popularity when he was wrongfully accused of a vile crime that led to a woman's death. Do people have a hidden desire to hate popular entertainers? Does this remind you of Bennie Hill's comedies? This was formerly called "Fatty's Magic Pants". |
