5.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad video for any level of golfer, August 28, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Faults & Fixes Volume 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The problem with any instructional golf book is that it is STATIC, whereas a golf swing is a study in MOTION. The problem, however, with any instructional golf VIDEO, is one of portability: it is virtually impossible to take videos out onto a practice range or green where they would do you the most good.

That's why it's important for a golf video to have simple, easy to remember learning points and drills, so you can watch the swing in motion from your couch (preferably with a club in your hand just to get the feel of the static points in a move, whether it be the grip, the stance or the top of the backswing) and then go out on the range with a clear remembrance of what the video suggested you do.

In that respect, Leadbetter's Faults and Fixes Vol 1 truly shines. Leadbetter and prize pupil Nick Price run through a series of fundamentals -- not really so much specific "faults and fixes" initially as just proper golf that should fix any fault you have -- and then they summarize the points at the end of each lesson with stop-motion video and a few easy-to-remember swing keys superimposed along the bottom of the screen. I personally found this technique to be very easy to hold onto and mentally carry with me to the practice range.

For additional help with specific faults, you should also pick up Leadbetter's book of the same name. It is directed more at fixing a specific problem and is set up in a catalogue format to help you jump right to the problem you want to work on.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor editing + sound, hard to follow demos, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Faults & Fixes Volume 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Even though there is no question on what David Leadbetter's has contributed to the world of golf, the Vol. 1 and 2 of this video really aren't much what you would expect.

First of all, the sound is awful, many dialogs are lost because the sound of the wind hitting the microphone. Also, the editing is poor.

The drills presented on the video are not bad, but Nick Price, who is the co-star of the video, makes a superfast backswing, not easy to follow for someone trying to copy a movement or correct a mistake.

Considering the poor quality of the video and the hard to follow movements, this is not a video that would be much of an advantage for a golf enthusiast trying to improve his swing.

Try something else!!
