This review is from: The Fauré Album (Audio CD)
I only know Faure from his "Berceuse". I don't know that the musicians were trying to prove anything. But this is beautiful music, lovingly made by impressive musicians. As an earlier review remarked, Shaham's breathing adds an extra intimacy to these recordings. Delightful.

Fauré as It Was Meant to be Played,
By J Scott Morrison (Middlebury VT, USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Fauré Album (Audio CD)
This disc on Canary Classics has precisely the same performances as those on the earlier Artemis CD. I'm not quite sure why the name change from Artemis to Canary, but I do believe Gil Shaham founded both labels. Perhaps the latter has simply superseded the former. The artwork is different but the booklet notes are the same. And the performances are simply marvelous. One could argue that Fauré shouldn't be played in quite the romantic way that Shaham and his colleagues -- pianist Akira Eguchi and cellist Brinton Smith -- do it, but frankly I think the music, even the late piano trio, benefits from it.
There have been a number of customer reviews at the product page for the earlier version of this CD and I'd suggest you go there for the opinions of several other reviewers. The Artemis version is here: The Fauré Album Recommended. Scott Morrison
