This review is from: Fauré: Violin Sonata No. 1 / Debussy: Violin Sonata / Saint-Saëns: Violin Sonata No. 1 (Audio CD)
This CD is terrific. I had never heard of Chee-Yun. I only got this disc because I chose it as a freebie from the record club. I really wasn't expecting very much the first time I played it. I was blown away, especially by the Saint-Saens. Ms. Yun plays this thing like it's never been played before. The final movement is like a long orgasm that just won't stop. It's absolutely breathtaking. I've since listened to several other renditions, including Heifitz and Shaham, and they don't even come close to Yun's brilliance. She gives the lie to the old myth that Asians are all technique and no passion. I also have to say a word of praise for Akira Eguchi's sensitive support on piano. Chee-Yun doesn't sound like anybody else. Her style of playing is absolutely unique. I recommend this CD very highly.
