5.0 out of 5 stars So this is what Cockroaches sound like when they give birth!, December 18, 2000
By
This review is from: Faust (Audio CD)
As with "In A Foreign Town, In A Foreign Land", this disk is meant to be a musical accompaniment to the text that is included. Since I find it impossible to read with music in the background, I played solitaire instead.

I lost all of my games.

This is a creepy piece of music. It did not disappoint me at all. I heartily recommend it.

The first few minutes of voices and mutterings made me think I was listening to: CRIES AND WHISPERS - The Musical.

Then there were these scratchings and skitterings that reminded me of roaches.

Finally, the moanings and wailings made think that Hell was outside my door.

Current 93 is one of those bands who take a great a deal of effort to love. Your hard work and patience will be rewarded.

Recently, I lent a work buddy Current 93's "I Have A Special Plan For This World".

After a half-hour, he walked into my cube, as if in a trance, staring straight ahead. Without looking down, he handed the disk back to me and said ...

"We're both going to Hell"

I can't wait to hear his reaction to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars miss the point?, May 24, 2002
This review is from: Faust (Audio CD)
as most of my fellow reviewers have missed the point let me correct some misunderstandings. David Tibet(current 93) recorded this music to be read with the short story by Eric Stenbock, which is included. did you not read the story? heres a clue. that's what the liner notes are. this is the 2nd such work David Tibet has done and he does a good job creating an atmosphere for reading this wonderful story. If you are looking for wierd for wierds sake, PLEASE go elsewhere. The story is a retelling of Faust. Stenbock is able to add some nice twists and turns to an old tale. He paints Satan as someone to almost be pitied, but despite this pity the "protaganist" ultimately devotes his live to christ. To say it is good music or bad music is missing the point. It sets up a wonderful story wonderfully. If you enjoy this look for the rerelease of thomas ligotti's "In a Foreign Town, in a Foreign Land" 4 storys of the borderland between dream and reality set to a score by David Tibet and friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spooky, March 25, 2001

daniel (Sterling Heights, Mi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faust (Audio CD)
No doubt inspired by the book "Faust", this is a strange release. It is 1 track, and it is loaded with warbled, creepy, odd and mystifying noises, whispers and tones. It is kind of transcending and fluid. Probably best recommended for established Current 93 fans or people that like odd or experimental "music". ...
