Faust's first four albums are all fantastic ventures into some really strange sonic territory. They're lumped in with other 70's German bands like CAN and Neu!, but really these guys are more akin to later bands like This Heat, the Boredoms, and Acid Mothers Temple.

This album is only $3, so if you are a fan of adventurous, gleefully demented noise, and you haven't heard Faust, there's really no reason for you to not get this.

My main reason for writing this review, though, was to straighten out the song titles. They are:

1) Why Don't You Eat Carrots?
2) Meadow Meal
3) Miss Fortune (live)

Check this out, and if you like it, be sure to buy "So Far," "The Faust Tapes," and "Faust IV."

Talk about some over the top prog. You will get a heavy dose of some 15 minutes rhapsodies. Sit back and turn the high end speakers up to the max and enjoy.

It is a voyage of sonic wonder that you will experience from the first song. The only criticism I have is the album songs are not titled based on the original recording. Abstract and yet focused.

I expect I'll get blasted on this review BUT...

This is the first record released to the public (in Europe anyway) of the legendary Progressive outfit called Faust from Germany. Recorded in 1971 at Wumme, the techniques employed in performing the title were an different for the times. Kraut Rock grows from this band.

It has some distant familiarities to very early Pink Floyd circa 66-69 but a lot rowdier! But nothing grabbed my attention as to being something I needed in my personal library.
At the same time, it is NOT repulsive to me. I like weird experimental music that is performed with good and intelligent musicians. This IS that.

But nothing (for me) to hold on too.
"So Far", in a MUCH better record for me.
3 bucks is better than thirty.
