5.0 out of 5 stars A great artist with potential to be greater.
About the book: Victoria is a very good artist (I do not vouch for her writing skills yet). The only flaw in her art is the lack of proper perspective, but when lost in the contemplation of it, you just forget about it. She could improve both perspective and architectural painting, but considering that she's only 25, she has good time to solve those little flaws...

3.0 out of 5 stars The art of gothic
I bought this book impressed by the gorgeous drawings. But after reading it I found that the story was somewhat empty and well known, a mere excuse for each drawing.
So, as an art book is great and stunningly beautiful, as for the story ... I'll keep looking at the illustrations and forget about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great artist with potential to be greater., January 17, 2008
This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
About the book: Victoria is a very good artist (I do not vouch for her writing skills yet). The only flaw in her art is the lack of proper perspective, but when lost in the contemplation of it, you just forget about it. She could improve both perspective and architectural painting, but considering that she's only 25, she has good time to solve those little flaws.

However, and despite those flaws (which are hard to notice unless you are a freak like me and pay great attention to every little detail), her art is amazing... Her women and characters take hold of the image and the backgrounds blur after them. The skins, hair and clothes are amazing, the general overall feeling impressive. It's a weird kind of gothic... It's melancholic, but not desperate. It's lonely, but not horribly so... It's sad and beautiful at the same time.

I have reported the first review of this book as inappropriate: if the book arrived damp and spoiled, it is not the book's or Victoria's fault. It would be like labelling a job dangerous because you sprained your ankle on your way to it. Besides, to all customers: if one of amazon products arrives in bad state, you can send it back and they send you another one, with absolutely no trouble. Accidents happen, and if you are lazy enough not to send back spoiled merchandise, you can't blame the author or the editorial.

This book by Victoria has gotten an one star rating only because the delivery service failed, and the book was broken. It is grossly unfair to the artist and to the editorial, who have created a good product. You don't rate Coca-cola as crappy when a bottle arrives broken: you just return it and demand a replacement.

But back to Victoria: her women are beautiful, melancholic, somewhat scary too... Her backgrounds could improve, but they don't really matter, since they are there just to add to the feeling, and not to take your attention from the characters, which are the real protagonists.

I do not like dark art, I don't like horror movies or things creepy, and the sight of blood in a drawing creeps me off. Still, I love Victoria's art. And that's the highest compliment I can pay her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye catching!, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
I love Victoria's work. If you like vampires, you will too. It is full of beautifully done art work that has a dark side. I can look at the book over and over again and see things I didn't notice before. Such fine detail!

this book is wonderfully written and illustrated. the only downer with it, is how short it is. the book in length took a little less then ten minutes to read. but the art was amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, drool-worthy gothic!, January 22, 2008

Ignore the first one-star comment, that should've been left as negative feedback for the re-seller of the book, NOT for the product and artist of it. (I've reported it to be removed).

Onto the book: GORGEOUS, drool-worthy stuff! If you like Anne Rice, vampires, goth-art, even renn-art, you will LOVE it. They are very inspirational to writing stories and poetry to them.

These would make great coffee table books for the dark-art lover, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stone Tears, December 26, 2010
This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book and definitely worth owning, however the going price on Amazon right now id $250 and to anyone thinking about buying this book just let me tell you that it's $15 at Borders and $20 on Ebay. there are books that are worth that much money, but not a book that's still in print. the sellers must be out of their minds to think that people would pay that much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Bought A Gold Mine, May 6, 2011

This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
Favole: Stone Tears is a beautiful book art wise, but not so much a good read. It's full of beautiful lines and metaphors, but I can't say I enjoyed the writing. In fact, I think maybe the art helped me get through the book itself. So I do not recommend the book for someone looking for something to read. But I didn't even buy it to read in the first place, though discovering it was a story she wrote did pique my interest. I would, however, recommend the book for lovers of visual art, mainly lovers of Gothic art, which is the reason why I bought the book, for the visual art.

Now, the art is utterly beautiful. The art is masterful, it gets the imagination going, and is truly a book full of inspiration. I mean, you can't not look at this book and not imagine. It's definitely something I would leaf through if ever I needed inspiration to get me going.

Victoria Frances has become one of my favorite artists. Her art is bursting with Gothic themes (and breath taking imagery), but can appeal to those who do not favor Gothic art. If you love vampires, then Victoria Frances is a must. She captures the vampire in all its glory with her art, she really does. I'd love to see her draw Armand and Marius and Claudia and Louis or some of LKH's vampires like Jean-Claude or Asher or Requiem.

I gave this five stars because I absolutely loved it. And you're practically sitting on a gold mine if you are an artist. Her illustrations sparks the imagination and fills the head with many, many ideas, so I would definitely recommend this book for writers, especially writers of Gothic themes.

Five stars all the way across the board!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just my Opinion, December 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
I found this artist by chance, and I instantly liked her work. I love Gothic imagry and themes. So I ended up buying all three in this series, they are all great. I like the stories, however I would like to purchase a book of just her art work. Victoria Frances web site is a little difficult to navigate through sometimes. If anyone knows where to find an art book of hers please post a message on these reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, October 27, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Favole, Book One: Stone Tears (Hardcover)
I was a little hesitant when i first ordered the product but when it arrived, the book blew my mind away. I intend for the book to be a christmas gift and i know that my sister, who is an artist for fun, will love the book. I will be buying her others for future gifts if my sister doesn't find out where i got them and beat me to it! The pictures are beautiful and the quality was amazing. The book is graphic so I would really recommended that if you intend this book to be a gift that the reciept is at least 18 or the guardian is okay with partial nudity. All that aside, it is simple just wonderful art to be appreciated.
