If you are looking for old-time gospel music like, "I'll Fly Away", "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", "Angel Band", "Victory in Jesus", "Gloryland Way" and countless other songs that might be just as at home in a bluegrass ensemble as a church then this is the book for you. I bought a large group of these books to replace the original hymnals that were purchased decades ago. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this purchase.

We have been searching for this hymnbook to replace old books in our church. We were thankful to find it was still in print & available for purchase. It has wonderful traditional hymns and songs that our church is accustomed to. If you're looking for "praise & worship" type music....it's not here. These are the beloved old songs of the faith!

This FAVORITE SONGS AND HYMNS hymnal is a product well worth owning. While many of the 346 hymns in this book like "In the Garden," "Softly and Tenderly (Jesus is Calling)," and "He Leadeth Me" can be found in most good non-denominational hymnals, many are harder to find, like "We're Marching to Zion," "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," and "I'd Rather Have Jesus." This reprint of a 1939 original is a well-bound hardcover volume, and the smaller-than-modern hymnal size (8 by 5.5" or about 20 x 14 cm) makes it easy to handle. The spine is blank. The shaped notes add charm but do not interfere with the reading of conventional musical notation. Be aware, though, that for about one to five dollars more the reader could buy a much larger and more modern non-denominational hymnal like the CHRISTIAN LIFE HYMNAL, WORSHIP & REJOICE or CELEBRATING GRACE HYMNAL, that have a mixture of standard Protestant hymns, "old-time" hymns from the 1870-1920 period, and some modern hymns as well.

This book was published in 1939. We used this song book in the Baptist churchs that I grew up in and there are so many wonderful songs; many have parts and harmony. The music has shape notes. We still use this book at reunions and family gatherings around our piano. It is the best. I hope it will be published again for selling, as it is a keeper!

We had the same hymnal at the small church I went to as a teenager. I play a guitar and wanted to sing and play the old songs but I couldn't even remember the name of it. I contacted a relative that played the piano at the same church and he knew the name but didn't have one either. I checked and found several on Amazon and picked out one that said it was in EXCELLENT CONDITION" and it was. The book is copyrighted in 1939 and you can tell it is old but the condition IS EXCELLENT FOR ITS AGE. I have to be gentle with it but I only wanted it for the names of the songs I sang as a child. I go through the index, then check the song to make sure it is the one I want and then check online for free music tabs and then download and print the pages. GOOD WAY TO BUILD YOUR OWN HYMNAL........

Love it, and now I am "playing and singing to the LORD"...... PRAISE GOD FOR HE IS GOOD.
