I really appreciated this book. It's kind of an old fashioned Junior League Cookbook. These ladies were raising money by asking chapter participants in each state in the US to submit recipes. The money was being raised to fund trips for less fortunate women to a women's exposition in the late 1800s. Instead of using modern measurements, they say use 1/2 tea-cup. There are some good very old fashoned recipes in here. It is great for the cookbook collector or the adventurous cook.

This book is a collection of recipes by a woman's group working with the Chicago World's Fair (aka Columbian Exposition) in 1893. Like Junior League, Ladies Auxiliary or church group cook books - these are treasured recipes of home cooks. Because this is a national project, it includes food from a variety of regions and cooking styles. While all of the basic categories are covered: meats, breads, desserts, etc - there are some recipes that are completely foreign to today's cook: Gooseberry Catsup, Broiled Woodcock, Vegetable Oyster. Overall, this is a nice addition to my collection of cookbooks.
