5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Book November 19, 2010
By Dunsu
Format:Spiral-bound
I bought this back in September after seeing it in a local bookstore. It is chock full of tempting recipes, ideas for making food both fun and tasty for all the big and little goblins. I have made the Pecan Bites and got rave reviews.Like all the Gooseberry books, it also includes ideas and little poems etc. I enjoy reading those as I look through their books. I have now ordered the Christmas and Fall books. Looking forward to spending time reading them and making the recipes as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Halloween Recipes October 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great little halloween cookbook to give ideas and recipes for the days leading up to halloween. It includes some hearty dinner ideas as well as fun halloween treats. I recommend this to anyone wanting to bring some halloween fun to your house. Also some good ideas for themed treats for a bakesale or class party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific book! March 18, 2013
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I tried to find this book on E-Bay and it was far more expensive and not in any better condition. These are somewhat difficult to find, but is worth looking for. It has lots of tips and ideas for Halloween, just what I would expect from Gooseberry Patch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Same old, same old October 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I felt there was nothing new or clever. There were no pictures or even illustrations in this book. Often the dishes had nothing to do with Halloween, but were just simple dishes with a holiday title. I usually love Gooseberry Patch cookbooks, but this was a letdown.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of recipes October 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While this book has lots of Recipes what I really missed were pictures. Especially for specialty foods for Halloween, you sort of want to see what they should or will look like. Also these recipes tend to use more prepared ingredients rather than fresh. While this book is fun to read, I'm not sure that the recipes will be that useful for me without some modifications to more whole foods.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Seasonal October 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Fall has always been my favorite time of year here in New England - a time for wading through great piles of gorgeous yellow, orange and red leaves, bonfires, late camping trips and Halloween! The folks at the Gooseberry Patch have gathered together a bunch of seasonal favorites in Our Favorite Halloween Recipes Cookbook: Jack-O-Lanterns, hayrides and a big harvest moon...it must be Halloween!)

The Kindle version is nicely laid out and features an interactive Index accessible from the Table of Contents link that lists all 62 recipes, many sized to be suitable for larger gatherings. (Think 12-16 or more servings.)

You'll find recipes for specialties like Swampwater Punch & Bublin' Berry Brew, unusual popcorn balls made with cinnamon red hots or candy corn, big batches of fudge, homemade doughnuts (it wouldn't be Halloween at Grandma's without homemade doughnuts) and a wide variety of appetizers (Cajun Spiced Pecans, Great Pumpkin Cheese Ball, Armadillo Eggs) along with a handful of easy main dishes. There is a nice balance of quick & easy recipes that start with a mix and those "made from scratch" and more than a few that can be readied ahead of time in a crock pot.

Recipes are interspersed with some easy ideas for Halloween crafts, presentation tips, and even a party theme or two.

I did find one recipe that I question. The recipe for Armadillo Eggs calls for a mere 1 pound of sausage to encase 16 cheese-stuffed jalapeños, which are then baked for "40-50 minutes" at 350F before being rolled in biscuit dough and baked a further 10-12 minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yum!? January 14, 2014

It's hard to review a cookbook! Some people like the food, some don't! I thought the recipes were easy to follow. Some were great! Some weren't but that could've been just my ability!
