(2-CD set) The 1920s was the Jazz Age, when white Americans discovered the syncopated rhythm that African-American musicians had been improvising for some time in New Orleans and on Chicago's South Side. Some New Yorkers ventured up to Harlem to listen to jazz as it was meant to be performed. Tin Pan Alley was never more productive. The ragtime of the teens gave way to the jazz of the 1920s. And while the sound might not have been pure in form, it was often made by musicians who were later to become some of the biggest jazz names of the 1930s and 1940s.

This is one of the better recording of 1920's music. The tracks are all very clear and if you care for this music you should add this item to your collection. It is wonderful to hear these original recordings. Run, don't walk, and get this item before it is deleted or is no longer available. The 2 CD set is worth every penny. I'm 72 years young and I'm taking Charleston lessons!!

I am basing this rating on the response from the person to whom I gifted this CD. She and her husband both loved it, absolutely loved it. I did not hear any sample music as it was from an outside Amazon.com vendor. She said that her husband loves this more than his World War II CD which is saying quite a lot. I look forward to listening to this when I visit her in a week or so. I bought this sight unseen based on other reviews so I am quite pleased that they are very very happy with it.
