Turkish cuisine is one of the best in the World but can be very complex and time consuming to prepare at home, just like French food. Therefore, I was looking for a simple Turkish cookbook to give it to my Canadian girlfriend so that she can learn to prepare all those delicious dishes one tastes when visiting Istanbul, one of the most enchanting cities in the world. When I mentioned this to my Turkish American friend Ela Kozak Kucukcakar, who is a self taught expert on gourmet food, she said look no further and presented me with a copy of a book that she wrote few years back. I was surprised and delighted because Ela is an engineer by profession, but I never knew that she was a published cookbook author too!

At first glance, the book looks very simple and the recipes easy to follow, but you never know how they will turn up until you try them out. Well, it has been few months since we were given the book and I can tell you that the layout of the recipes are very easy to follow and the results are very satisfying indeed. In fact we were so impressed with the dishes that we now use this book to entertain. Ela should be definitely on the Foodnetwork TV for Americans to experience her magic in the kitchen.
