If there is any justice this album will be massive...,

...but if doesn't become that then the few that own this will know and want to share that amazing voice that graces this album with others. The opener, the stevie wonder like - "all else can wait" pics up where her last album's closer "Get Ready in the Morning" left off. It amazes me how soulful this woman sounds. The broken beat saunter of "what we want !" still allows for the underlying old school rhythm to shine through. What is so superb is that none of the arrangements and production styles take away from the soul that Alice effortlessly delivers. It appears as though you are riding a timeline of soul styles that hit on mowtown, broken beat, downtempo, samba and gritty funk. While there are no up tempo scorchers that are of the caliber of her work with QSO like the heavy slice of funk "Pushin' On" or "End of the Road", it is pure gratification and delight to here her pipes. She ranks right up there with Carleen Anderson for belting out old school soul in modern times. That said, her debut "Under the Munka Moon" and work with Quantic, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Bah Samba, and Nostalgia 77 (especially the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" cover) are highly recommended.

...if Under The Munka Moon was an instant classic then this has to be one of the best soul/funk/R&B albums of recent times, every track stands on it's own right and, like the previous album, is one of those rare albums that can be played all the way through surprising the listener at every turn with unusual phrasing, wonderful diversity, amazing production and sheer quality, oh and then there's THAT voice. From the homages to Stevie Wonder (All Else Can Wait) and Prince (A Fly in The Hand) to the sheer handclapping jazzy joy of High Up On The Hook this is an album that, if there is ANY justice in this shallow world of ours, should be on everyone's shopping list and should be gracing the top of charts across the globe. BUY IT NOW!

This is a really really good CD. You will LOVE it. Really really good lyrics, songwriting, voice, vocal arrangements, musical arrangements. Inspired, intense, grabs you from the first listen. Every song is different. Alice Russell is a force and she keeps getting better. This is very original work, great fun to listen to. It makes me feel a big "EEEYYYOWWWW! This is SO cool!" Songs 3, 4 and 7 are my initial standout favorites, but the others are growing and may take over. What a wonder Alice's voice is, and with her fabulous writing...so fresh, gritty, real. YUM!
