Book Description

July 15, 2008
From the Back Cover ... A warning to the reader ... You may not wish for people to know you are reading this book. In some jurisdictions such material is banned, and in some there may be severe penalties should you be caught with it in your possession. Even in places with free speech some authorities, and some of your neighbors will be suspicious if they open and read portions of this book, and find you reading it. In the near future the consequences could be much worse. You may not wish to read it at all. FROM the Author ... The fact is our world is mostly made from refined technology invented long ago. Shelter, transportation, medicine, even space exploration technology dates from more than half a century ago. The most innovative technology of our times is electronic, including computation, because it is the least regulated by the government. Regulation, taxation, and stagnation go together. To those of us that grew up with visions of a world with freedom, and technology that would save time, human effort, much human misery, open the door to space travel and all the benefits that can bring, including perhaps the ultimate survival of our species, current events and the status quo signal the death knell of such possibilities. Until when? What will change? Are we destined for a New Dark Age? Fe Fi FOE Comes is fiction, or maybe it just hasn't happened yet. W.C.S.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Fe Fi FOE Comes was released in July of 2008. After four months, without a mass-market publisher, without access to the major market bookstore bookshelves, silence from the established review sources such as the New York Times, the Galley Proof Edition continues to move by word of mouth to readers in such diverse locations as Alaska, California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Alabama, Maryland, and beyond to England, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. The vein of the feedback is universal ... this is an entertaining read. This is a novel which blurs the line of reality between the Past, the Present, and the Future. It is a Saga in real time that links actions and consequences of yesteryear to the current maladies of civilization, then beyond to a possible future as an alternative to the ongoing drive to the continuation of catastrophes, and to the future extinction of all life. It begins in our world of the here and now. A storyteller, a praetorian, and two seemingly innocent bystanders are caught up in a race for their freedom from the authorities of a world now devoid of human rights or personal liberty. The crime? A manuscript the authorities find provocative. Now the ideas in the manuscript have been acted on and the Future is the Present; all that has happened is the Past. The links forged between progress and regulation, the rulers and those they rule, freedom and slavery are all broken, except in those places held by the rogues. Alaska is the focal point around which the Earth turns, and it has given birth to the champions of liberty. Life is war they say. All living things struggle against natural and organic forces that would end their living existence; in that sense all living things are in continual battle with the elements and living predators to stay alive. There is a new predator for the wicked in the world. Fe Fi FOE Comes! Yet it is in the Past that the foundation for the Empire must be built, and we discover it is forged in Hell. It is to Hell that all the Alaskans go, and this becomes a place where the tiny spark of freedom is fanned into flames. But fate is not kind, and those of the Alaskan Empire suffer treachery, and war beyond which they may not sustain. A call has also come from the stars, and a single ship that took the wealth of a world and the geometry of an idea to create is dispatched to see if those across the vastness of space are friend or foe. The answer, which lies in the Future can only be answered if the Past has prepared for it. The blueprint is drawn in the Past and now an answer in the Future is possible ... it will take a new beginning. You meet those of today, awakened to the reality of their world, and those of the future; the ultimate warriors that risk their lives for liberty. These are people who s watchwords are honor, courage, and integrity. There is much strife, warfare, love, and even redemption between the covers of this novel. It is not for everyone, but for those it is for it is well done. --S.C. Morsak - Vel North

4.0 out of 5 stars Libertarian science fiction, June 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fe Fi FOE Comes (Paperback)
The beginning of the book where a lawyer is framed because he helped a radical libertarian make copies of a book is quite exciting. In the middle we learn what was in the book. There the author describes a libertarian society in which a sort of super police (although he says that they are not police since police are the enforcers of government regulations) keep totalitarianism and others who use force to curb other people's freedom in check. He also gives the rules of a perfect society, most of which any thinking person would agree with provided people were sane, thoughtful and not out to screw the other guy. Sigh. People are not like that in reality. Like all such books, toward the end it bogs down in its pomposity. The good guys are too perfect, too invincible, and hence boring. There is also a sort of militaristic thinking that pervades the book where loyalty is everything and giving ones life for "the cause" is worthwhile. Nonetheless, the book was interesting and has some important things to say about our society as it exists today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, well written, February 4, 2011
This review is from: Fe Fi FOE Comes (Paperback)
A Sci-Fi thriller that leads the reader through a thought-provoking storyline about a political vision and libertarian society in the not too distant future. Well developed characters and a plausible plot make this an easy read in spite of the length of 869 pages. The reviewed copy was a galley proof copy and contained some errors that should be caught in the final editing.

Although the size of Fe Fi Foe Comes may appear daunting to some readers, it flows easily enough that you get caught up in the storyline from the first few pages. Somewhere around the middle of the story, the light comes on and the reader will begin to put it all together.

The dedicated SciFi fan will enjoy Fe Fi Foe Comes as will the political enthusiast. If you are looking for a quick read, this is not the book for you, but those who enjoy a Sci-Fi thriller coupled with political comment on our system's shortcomings will find it entertaining and thought provoking.
