Is it Possible to Forgive What Hurts so Much?,
By Grapes (Southeast USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fear to Freedom: What if you did not have to be so afraid? (Paperback)
Rosemary Trible's book about Fear to Freedom is a book about a courageous woman blessed with a heart of forgiveness. Rosemary Trible experienced a brutal rape by a man totally unknown to her. Although this experience is one of the most dreaded of all women, Rosemary Trible did not give up and hide in a personal shell. Ultimately, she went on with her life. After the rape her life was led like a new person. She became centered on forgiving the most hardest to forgive of people. Unbelievably, through the help of Christ she forgave the man who had raped her.
Rosemary Trible also began to give and give of herself. Her good deeds began to become the most important part of her life along with her husband and children. I remember especially her time spent with Mother Theresa. There was no diseased person Rosemary's hand would not reach out to touch or to hug. One very bad experience led her to blossom like a rose. Unfortunately, the rape wasn't the only horrible experience that would happen in her life. She would also become trapped in her vehicle during a snow storm. Days spent in a hospital would become a time of miraculous visitations from people whom she loved. These people including her godson and the rapist would lead her into a light she called a near life experience. These people would hold her close, surround her with a spiritual love while she made her way back to family and friends here on earth. There are many scriptures in the book mixed with her story. These scriptures made me feel like I was having the chance to learn more about Christ's love for me. She mentioned the scripture about our name being written in his hand. She also mentioned His not remembering our sins throwing them as far as the East is from the West. I enjoyed meeting her family. I think Rosemary Trible was a supermom. For years her husband worked in the House of Representatives. Then, he became senator. Then, he would become headmaster of a college. Rosemary mentioned that it seemed like every six years there seemed to be a major change in their life. Without a doubt she geared up for new experiences and gave her all. I learned from this book that forgiveness is more than just a word. Forgiveness also includes action. Now, the word "forgiveness" is a word I take very seriously. Sometimes I say a word so often it kind of loses it's power. The light or the neon glow of the word is drained of God's Spirit. It becomes another ordinary word from a dictionary. This one act "forgiveness" allows a fearful person to become whole and brave again. This is a truly inspired book. Rosemary Trible travels the world helping those in need. At the same she traveled to my side and made me see there is more comfort and love free to me than I could ever realize. I also do not have to live my days in fear. All I have to do is accept the invitation.

Powerful book about healing, forgiveness and finding freedom. Rosemary's story of going from victum to victor is inspiring and encouraging to any who have faced similar experiences. Finally, we are talking about an issue (sexual assault) that affects 1 out of 6 women in the U.S. This book gives women hope!

I have had the joy and blessing of being a close acquaintance of Rosemary Trible. Although I have not read the book cover to cover, I was able to read part of the book throughout her writing process, and I have heard her story with my own ears. She is an incredible woman who was able to truly grasp what it means to forgive- and has decided to share it with others. I would recommend this book to any one seeking to understand forgiveness, and any woman who has been a victim of sexual assault.

This is a super book on the importance of forgiveness of others in your life, and the value of forgiveness in combatting fear. It also contains some revelatory facts concerning life after death that were the best I had ever read. Having lost a daughter 11 years ago, this author's experience was very helpful to me.

A Rape Survivor Inspired by God,
By
This review is from: Fear to Freedom: What if you did not have to be so afraid? (Paperback)
Rosemary Trible's relation of her triumph over being raped by an assailant in a hotel room, as well as over having her home burglarized shortly thereafter, do justice to her faith in God. She has held firm to such faith since when she chose to be baptized in the Methodist Church at the age of ten. Trible asserts that "What was meant for evil has been used for good in my life. I would not be the woman I am today without this experience, and I would not have had the opportunity to walk alongside so many women dealing with fear throughout the years. If I had not traveled my own dark road of fear, I would not be able to challenge others to travel their own journey to healing and freedom."
The first half of From Fear to Freedom focuses on Trible's own story and steady growth in faith over the years, while the second half focuses more on her spiritual outreach to others. Trible regards her survival of what could have been a fatal car crash, following on which she had what she terms to be a "near-life" experience, as "the most wonderful experience" of her life. She regards this experience as one that served to confirm that the Lord had brought her from a traumatized, fear-ridden state to one of holistic being and wholeness. In addition to meeting with many loved ones who had passed on, she also met her rapist, who had been transformed from a life of violence to one which radiated hope and forgiveness. Trible urges readers to practice centering or contemplative prayer, which she regards as a mainstay of her existence. She holds Mother Teresa up as an example of radical devotion to a life dominated by love and prayer. Trible also shows how, step by step, we can come to forgive another. Her text is interlaced throughout with biblical verses that she has found to be of particular relevance to her own spiritual journey, as well as with quotes from leading Spirit-filled people, such as Mother Teresa and Saint Augustine. In her preface to this spiritually uplifting autobiography, Rosemary Trible recommends reading one chapter at a time along with the Pause and Reflect questions that form part of the appended Devotional Guide. In addition to the questions, she also offers, when appropriate, a Practical Process to explore, which is intended to help the reader advance on her own healing journey. While the questions are meant to provoke thought, the exercises are intended to help one discover new techniques to finding deeper meaning and happiness in life. Trible provides the assurance that the guide will also work well with an accountability partner, small discussion group, or prayer group as a weekly guide. A twelve-week informal study course would enable one to cover two chapters a week. She promises that great joy can be attained by finding peace with one's past, and by embracing a new passion for life that brings love, purpose, and greater fulfillment. Trible also includes Ten Commandments of Our Friendship, which are principles on which she agreed with her close African-American friend, Barbara Williams-Skinner, for guiding those who wish to enter into a deliberate and intentional commitment to a cross-cultural covenant relationship. Her end notes provide yet more additional insight into the sources of information that she cites in her text. Fear to Freedom contains 16 pages of full color photographs, largely of her family, friends and colleagues, including many of her political allies, both in the White House and beyond. You can also check out Trible's website at [...], of which the focus is on helping women to face their fears and to find joy again. Fear to Freedom is an ideal text for any woman of the Christian faith who has had to overcome fear and trauma in her life. All resource centers for women should regard this work as mandatory stock. "Fear to Freedom" by Rosemary Trible,
This review is from: Fear to Freedom: What if you did not have to be so afraid? (Paperback)
Other than some differences in theology, Fear to Freedom is one very personal biography of Rosemary Trible's brutal rape which she allowed God to turn to healing, and then turns the rape incident around and decidedly reaches out to really help women turn their issues over to God. I enjoyed Rosemary's transparency, her personal insights, steps to forgiveness, `journey to joy' section, and her in-depth devotional guide. She hits all the steps of healing. I found her book very sensitive and personal. I can feel her heart for women throughout the whole book. For that, I give her book a very high rating and recommendation.
This book was provided by Paula Krapf, Chief Operating Officer, at Author Marketing Experts, Inc., for my honest review of Fear to Freedom. My thanks.

Healing and forgiveness,
This review is from: Fear to Freedom: What if you did not have to be so afraid? (Paperback)
Rosemary was successful woman, a TV talk show host, her husband was on his way to becoming a political leader, when she was raped at gunpoint and her attacker was never found. The fear that engulfed her life and threatened to take over from the aftermath of the attack was a normal and natural response. It stole her joy and filled her with fear and depression. In this book, you will read how Rosemary, in spite of really never catching the guy who hurt her, was able to regain her joy, and break loose of the fear that while natural, was crippling her. You can read this story of an amazing woman who instead reaches out to other women now who have been in similar situations and how her life became victorious over fear. This book deals with sexual assault, terror, forgiveness and healing. It is not a fun to read story, but if you have experienced a trauma in your life, it is a very helpful book. I found her story incredible, that you can rise above a trauma and be healed, although you may still bear the "scars"
