Book Description

November 1, 2005 Lois Meade Mysteries
The latest Lois Meade mystery When Lois Meade is asked to clean for Tresham's mayor, this only arouses her curiosity ? especially when the mayor's limousine is seen to collect a package from the dubious shop opposite her office. Gradually Lois uncovers a web of deceit, sex for sale and murder amid the tranquillity of rural life, and it is time for her old admirer Chief Inspector Hunter Cowgill to become involved. True to form, Lois ignores his warnings . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Lois Meade, amateur sleuth and owner of New Brooms cleaning services, is back on the case. Well paced, cleverly plotted, and chock-full of cozy glimpses of life in a small English village, Purser's latest has Lois partnering again with local detective (and secret admirer) Hunter Cowgill. When Howard Jenkinson, the mayor of nearby Tresham, is found floating facedown in his backyard fishpond, his death appears to be a tragic accident. But things don't quite add up, and Detective Cowgill persuades Lois to do her usual discreet snooping. Despite the disapproval of her family, Lois uses her cadre of dedicated cleaners to help piece together bits of village gossip, odds and ends of past history, and snippets of information that eventually crack the case wide open. Even the usually unflappable Lois is shocked to learn that the civilized veneer of her peaceful village conceals a shocking tale of wife swapping, betrayal, and revenge. A fine series that just keeps getting better--a must for British cozy fans. Emily Melton

4.0 out of 5 stars New broom Lois, March 23, 2006
This review is from: Fear on Friday (Lois Meade Mysteries) (Hardcover)
Lois Meade is a heroine to be taken with pinches of salt. Her home-grown detecting skills and sharp tongue meld nicely with her managerial skills. Not a lady to be ignored, as Hunter would tell us. I always look forward to more Lois.
