One of the most evil and aggressive albums of all time.,

This album rips and is the quintessential ATG album imo, lindbergs vocals and the interplay between the guitars is amazing. This album has a truely dark and violent sound and is an example of how harsh this band could be, much more evil vibe than slaughter the soul. you can get six thousand other bands with albums that sound like slaughter the soul, this is the only ablum that sounds like this. highly recomended, now dont be a wuss and buy it.

This cd is less melodic than Slaughter Of The Soul, and a lot harder to get into. The over all tone is very very dark and moody. Thomas' voice is extremely tortured sounding and it's almost scary to hear this, how someone can sing like this i will never know. They are melodic with out being too melodic, heavy without being too heavy. They find just the right spot in the music and they amazingly keep it there for the whole album. The only problem with this album is the sound quality...i got the remastered version and it still sounds like S***. all in all, this is essential if you like death metal, brutal or melodic. Also get Slaughter Of The Soul.

An absolute masterpiece of melodic death!,

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?! And I call myself a true death metal fan, yet had never picked up this gem of classic Gothenburg sound. This is NOT the best At the Gates album (nothing short of divine intervention could top Slaughter of the Soul), yet it still crushes the modern pretenders to the melodic death throne. Kneel and pay homage to the original masters! Certainly, one might complain that the production is a little muddy, and some of the songs are a bit more meandering than those of the band's later works; still these are minor quibbles. No death fan's collection is complete without this album, and anyone disenchanted with the saccharine drivel being peddled by MTV under the guise of "metal" should check this out and hear what REAL metal sounds like.

This is not the best ATG album in my oppinion. Many think that this is the greatest atg album of them all. It's a lot more "blurry" than Red in the sky... The sound is good but rougher than last time. Thomas sounds a little different, still pissed like hell! Even if the philosophic sense is present, this sounds more like a angry roar from the first to the last second. This is a true classic just like the rest of them. Some songs are a little to muddy and it is sometimes hard to seperate the instruments from oneanother. At The Gates has a new style every new release and this was the 93'model. Not much more to be said. Everyone should get a copy of this brilliant work of art.

This is more of a faster, death metal sounding At The Gates than things you might hear on "Slaughter Of The Soul" and "Terminal Spirit Disease." It's got much lower production, so think of it sort of like Metallica's "Kill Em All," where the music was good but it sounded like a garage demo. This is better than a demo, but it's obviously not recorded in the most expensive studio around. I recommend this for hardcore ATG fans.

Yet another fantastic addition to At the Gates library of brutality. A must have for any metal fan!

I bought this album due to all the reviews that I read here, and I gotta tell you that this album is good, but not that good. I thought that it was going to listen to some brutal riffs and vocals, but I was mistaken.Don't get me wrong, this is a great album but it's no match for "Slaughter of the Soul". My favourites songs are "Raped by The Light of Christ" (what a romantic name!) and "The architects". Buy it, you won't regret it, but don't expect something like "S.O.T.S."

the burning darkness,
This review is from: With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness (Audio CD)
To be honest this was probably my least favorite At the Gates cd when I first heard it, but I think it's my favorite now. With songs like "raped by the light of christ" and "the burning darkness" this is genuine classic death metal. The lyrics in a number of their songs are clearly inspired by the occult, probably the necronomicon. The guitar parts aren't very technical, but their catchy. Sort of like how old deicide was. I definately recommend this cd! HAIL SATAN!!!!!
