John Bevere has written one of the greatest messages on this subject that not only is true and insightful, but also balanced in it's teaching. He brings such a greater understanding of the true Fear of the Lord. You should get done reading this book and know that to Fear God is not to be afraid of God. That He is not some abusive father, but Someone to whom we are to show respect, reverence, and honor to. Every Christian believer should read this book. Every Christian should learn to walk in the Fear of the Lord and truly reverence Him as John Bevere shows in this book.

There are not enough words to say how wonderful this book is. It is a book for every christians home. This book really teaches you the importance of fearing God in a reverent way. One may have always had a fear of God but this book will point out the areas in which one lacks the fear of the Lord. You will be surprised as to the areas in your own life that you may need to work on. This is a very simple written book. Very easy to understand. In is own way this book will open your eyes and help you walk closer with God than you ever have before.

Fear of the Lord has changed my life. I live life completely different with the Fear of the Lord in mind. John has challenged me to step out of a life of mediocrity and into a life of holiness. The Fear of the Lord will draw you closer to Him with truth and understanding. It's a must buy.

Have you been taking God too lightly lately? Having read this book I can assure you that John Bevere will cause you to look at your relationship with God in a new light. He will also help you to better realize the true meaning of "the fear of God". This book is a breath of fresh air, most needed in this day.

I've never read a book more compelling! It made me re-evaluate how I feel about the God that I serve. He is shown here for who He really is! And my heart is filled with more JOY than ever! Does it seem a contradiction? Read it for yourself and see what I mean!

In the book John takes you through the entire Bible (Old and New Testament) to show those who had an intimate relationship with the Lord and how they "feared" the Lord. It has caused me to pray for God to teach me to fear him. I understand that fearing God is separating ourselves from evil. When we fear God we draw close to God, we are not afraid!

This book had a powerful message on the fear of the Lord. We have been hearing many messages on the loving, and compassionate side of God but at the same time, we need a balance to hear messages about the fear of God. We need a balance of understanding the characteristics of God. If we only understand only one side of God, we will have an unbalanced view of who God is. If we ONLY understand about a caring, loving, compassionate God, it will lead to living a lifestyle of compromise. If we ONLY thinks that God is a judge, sin hating, holy, etc, it will lead a person to live a life of legalism. We need a balanced view of who God is.

At the same time, we need to hear the fear of God today and understand it. I totally recommend this book all the way. Please do not misunderstand that I always put the Word of God first above all books. Also I want to recommend another book by John Bevere called Hearts Ablaze.

Finally, someone in the church addressing a healthy relationship with God. The thing I love about John Bevere is that he does a superb job of balancing having a fear of God along with an intimate relationship with Him. Read this book and your life will be changed.

I read John Bevere's book, "The Voice of One Crying" and then immediately read this book. Both were excellent. In this book, I came to agree with Bevere that there is an irreverence that has infiltrated (for lack of a better word) the church. People simply do not respect the presence of God as they did at one time. This book will teach you not just how to develop a fear of the Lord, but why it is so necessary. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who wants to develop a closer walk with God.

John Bevere's books are some of the most challenging and lifechanging books I have read. I consider his books The Fear of the Lord, The Devil's Door, and The Bait of Satan a must read for all believers. Of the two, the Fear of the Lord and The Devils Door are companion vollumes.

The Fear of the Lord teaches about the reverence and honor we need to have a proper understanding of who God is. Modern Christianity teaches much about the mercy of God, but little of the Holiness of God. God is characterized by both. Our relationship with God must be characterized by a ballance of love, and respect. When we love God, but don't fear him, we are drawn to him, want to be with him, but we still sin because our love is not strong enough to keep us from sin. Tempering this love with a healthy respect and fear of God provides us with another tool to resist the enemy.

My children love me and want to please me. But there are times when they want to do something they know they are not allowed to do. In these situations, it is more often their understanding that they will be punished that keeps them obedient than their desire to please me. In the same way, when our love for God is not enough to keep us on the narrow path, if we our fear of the Lord can be, but only if we know him in his Holiness and Power and Sovreignty as Judge of this world.
