this cd is great,

I was a little skeptical on how this cd was gunna be after I heard a couple songs from the album, but being the loyal DLD fan, i went out and bought the cd. I absolutely loved the Five EP, and couldn't wait to hear more from them. Well after the first listen (in which it was turned down low, so I couldn't hear it very well) I was a little dissapointed. But I decided to give it another chance, but this time I cranked it, and what do you know, I f***in love it. The crazy guitar breakdowns and melody is amazing. I like the ambience on the cd too, it adds a cool touch to the music. Anyways, if you ever listened to these guys, go out and get this, it is sick.

Shedding their adolescent pop punk skin and moving forward into the progressive realm of music, DON'T LOOK DOWN are doing their impersonation of a butterfly on the verge of spreading their wings. Their "The Fear In Love" album is a plausible departure from their previous pop punk ways and it shows through a clearly defined, linear soundscape that is somewhat dark and ultimately sincere. Rather than relying the tried and true methods, DON'T LOOK DOWN placed emphasis and more instrumentation while still touching upon the attractiveness of pop punk. This record in particular could be weighed against SELFMADEMAN'S most recent effort or within the field of play for that specific style of music. Driving rock beats with pushy energy fused with the sincerity of someone who has gained wisdom in a very short period of time is right about where DON'T LOOK DOWN are headed with this one. Blessedly, they aren't a cheap fabrication of all the non-descript punk rock bands out there. Their mood and steadiness throughout the record does explore the outer reaches of pop punk but as with most of the songs, they come back to their newly discovered level of musical development. This record was neither too simple nor too complex. It worked in between those lines and produced satisfying beats, a tempered pace, mid to upper octave vocals and a constant barrage of rock motivated rhythms. Check out songs like "Trust is a Word", "Down and Out", "The Fear in Love" and "Dramatic You." If these don't turn you into a fan, then DON'T LOOK DOWN isn't for you.

If you thought the transition between their debut "Start The Show" and last year's "Five" was big, just wait until you hear this record. The songs are just as catchy and energetic as ever, but you can easily hear how much they've matured. Just in case you're new to Don't Look Down, the enhanced part of the CD is a video timeline from last year's Warped Tour up to the making of this record. The great thing about this record is that there's no band that you can say it sounds like. If you're into energetic indie rock, or either of Don't Look Down's old albums, do yourself a favor and get this.

I thought the CD "Five" was much better. Although, I'm not upset, as I only paid $4 for it.

Usually when most bands "mature," they put out garbage that alienates their fan base and weakens their live shows. DLD did not do this here. The song "Follow" is hands down one of the top ten rock songs to be released in all of 2004, and this entire album is haunting as it demands to be heard and will hook you after two or three listens. There is a total of TWO bad songs on this entire CD, the rest are very impressive. The CD is worth the price for the song "Follow" alone. This is not poppy, happy-go lucky music. It is dark but melodic, a hugely sucessful transitional experiment, sadly another gem that all too soon faded from the public eye. That's too bad, because DLD is very, very good.

Don't Look Down is truly a tremendous, remarkable find. Why they are not huge huge, I have no idea. Every single song is an outstanding melding of multiple intertwined melodies. Very complex and yet so simple-sounding. Extremely addicting. If you're anything like me, you will be hooked on every song, and find yourself wanting nothing but DLD for days, weeks, months. Honest. I don't know when my addiction will end; I don't want it to.

Ive waited patiently for this record to be released! I cannot believe the improvement on the songwriting this band has promoted. I watched them perform about a month before this was released, and i had an opportunity to hang out with the band after the performance, and they gave me a promo copy! but i did promise them that i would buy it when it came out, so i did, and its worth the 15 bucks! I am so glad they didnt go screamo, the music is completely solid, and full of catchy hooks, defintely pick this record up, the band is also super nice, probably the nicest people ive ever met.

Blink 182 did it, sum 41 did it, and a lot of other bands did it too, they change their style on their latest record. But DLD completly did it. I loved "start the show" and "five" , and had huge expectations to this record, but this is a totally different genre. I usally try to give bands i like a chance with their new stuff, but this isn't working for me. Songs like "get it right" and "undone" are amazingly catchy, but i don't find any of these songs catchy in the same way. Im not saying this is a bad record ( i still like the group of course), but im suggesting all of you (if you liked "start the show" and "five") to listen to this record BEFORE you by it..
