Suspense, Faith, and Romance Hold you in a Grip,
By squiresj (Wasola, Mo) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
What a Story! It starts out about Lincoln's Dad having Alheminer's, a disease I truly can relate to. My Mom died this past January after 3 years of dealing with the disease so I could relate to Lincoln's feelings.
Then Jade is run off the road and hits a tree. I've not been run off the road but I know first hand what it is to hit a tree. I felt myself experiencing this part of story. I grew up during the gang era and know what Robin wrote so well as it was a major thing in the big cities. But I did learn a lot I did not know. This book will grip you from page 1 to the end. You won't be able to put it down. Each chapter makes you want to keep reading. Your faith will be uplifted as you read about Jade and the flash bomb that goes off and her recovery. Lincoln dealing with his Dad's Alheminers and kidnapping andmore. I found a revival myself through this book. If you think your situations are hard to handle, I encourage you to read this. I truly loved the scripture at beginning of each chapter. Read it as it goes with chapter well.

fast-paced and exciting,

Officer Lincoln Vailes came to the small town of Eternal Springs, Louisiana, to help take care of his ailing father. What he never expected was to be dealing with flooding in the aftermath of a hurricane or for dead bodies to start showing up left and right.
Social worker Jade Laurent has secrets in her past that make her even more passionate about helping the battered women and kids that her job brings into her life. Because of her past, she doesn't have room for a man in her life, not even the handsome officer who keeps showing up in the nick of time. When the violence surrounding Jade escalates, she and Lincoln are thrown together in the fight of their lives. Will they survive? Will they fall in love? Robin really brings the reader into this book by using really strong descriptives about the setting. One of my favorites was when she describes the humidity as making the hero feel as if his dress suit is a wetsuit. Yikes! She does a great job of making you feel you are *there*, right in the story. The author also keeps the pace of the story fast - but not too fast - so that the reader is drawn into the action. I really had a hard time putting this book down. The mystery/gang storyline is woven in throughout the small-town storylines in a way that keeps the reader guessing and interested. The love story in this romantic suspense was deftly handled and draws the reader in to that part of the book. Overall, this is a quality read. Recommended.

Excellent Christian Thriller,
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
Fear No Evil by Robin Caroll grabbed me from the very first page and I found the book very hard to put down. Every time I walked by the computer I had to stop to read another page or two. This being the first book I have read of Ms. Carolls I know it will not be the last. I have not had the pleasure as of yet to read the first book Deliver Us From Evil but I feel this newest book can be read as a standalone. Lincoln Vailes a police officer has moved from Tennessee to Louisiana to be closer to his parents. His father due to being diagnosed with Alzheimer's has been placed in a nursing home. While on an assignment he meets Jade Laurent, a Child Welfare worker with a past of her own. As the story continues someone is out to kill her and now Jade is trying to protect her. As his feelings grow deeper , the accidents are getting more violent. Now they both learn that her long lost brother is about to show up at the hospital. Where has he been for the past 15-20 years. As gang related incidents start to happen are they related to the threat on Jades life. Now with her brother on the scene, will they discover whoever it is that is trying to kill Jade .Which gang are they from. Will this now lead to Jade's death or will she survive the threats and attempts that have been placed on her life? If you are looking for a high thriller book with more twist and turns than a Louisiana country road without all the sexual content and coarse language then I highly recommend Robin Caroll's newest Christian Suspense book Fear No Evil. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from cover to cover. The characters are quite absorbing and one feels as if they are right in the middle of all the happenings that are going on. This is a edge of your seat thriller that I highly recommend. I would like to thank the author and B&H Publishing through Net Galley for providing this ARC copy for my review.

The Fingers of Evil Have No Boundaries...,
By Diane Brown "The Readers Cove" (Fort Collins, Colorado) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
Tangled webs of deception are skillfully woven into this dramatic and vivid story. "Small town living" is considered a safe haven, but the unthinkable often lurks around the corner.
The writing has a good flow and is easy to follow. The two-sided story will open your heart to truth you wish you didn't learn, for this fiction could be someone's reality. Fear No Evil is filled with passionate characters who take their jobs to the limit and beyond. Visualize the chaos, feel the fear and watch the struggle for survival as evil slithers into Eternal Springs. Be sure and lock your doors!

A spinning suspense novel,
By
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
I read this book in a day on vacation. It is a gripping story of southern suspense, the kind Caroll is best at telling. And the characters (even one of the almost bad guys) really make you care about them. If you read the first book, you'll remember Lincoln Vailes. Now he's moved to a small town police department and is thrust into the middle of a dispute involving a local social worker. Jade Laurent brings a host of personal experience to her job...and it makes her care...almost too much. And someone is out to get her. Lincoln is determined to save her, but seems thwarted at every turn. If you love suspense and richly drawn characters, you will enjoy this book!

A Tale you won't want to miss...,
By Love 2 Read Novels "Sherry" (a small town in Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
Robin Caroll puts your heart through it's paces in this fast-paced, action-filled tale. It's one that once you begin reading you won't want to put it down. Lincoln Vailes (from Deliver Us From Evil) has become a police officer and returned to Louisiana to be close to his parents. On one of his calls he runs across Jade Laurent. A social worker trying to help a mother and child escape an abusive situation. He's drawn to her confident demeanor but no way is he getting involved. Jade trusts no man after her childhood experience. When several attempts are made on Jades life, Lincoln feels compelled to protect her. As Jade studies Lincoln she wonders if he just might be a man she could trust.
This author does a great job portraying reality. This story deals with difficult subject matters like abuse, murder, gangs and Alzheimer all wrapped up in a hard-pounding story. I really like how real Lincoln and Jade were. Jade had faith and hope despite her early childhood. Yet Lincoln, who grew up as a pastor's son has pretty much side-stepped his faith and replaced it with anger as he watches his father waste away. You'll experience lots of twists and turns as you ride your way to the bittersweet yet delightful finish! I highly recommend Fear No Evil. It can be read as a stand alone but would suggest you read Deliver Us From Evil first. A thank you goes to the author and B&H Publishing for providing this complementary copy for my review.

This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
A high-octane read, Fear No Evil, is an excellent read! Caroll stuns again with her mastery of great plot twists, strong characters, and true-to-life drama. This is an awesome read and will not disappoint! And I just have to say--Lincoln is by far one of my favorite Caroll characters. Love the man! :-D

Fear No Evil,
This review is from: Fear No Evil (Paperback)
Fear No Evil is a crime/mystery novel set in Louisiana. I have not read the first book in this series, Deliver Us From Evil, but this book is perfectly fine as a standalone.
Lincoln Vailes is a likeable character as a Smokey Mountains park ranger turned Eternal Springs police officer. Lincoln's faith is being tested as he tries to accept the Alzheimer's disease overtaking his father, a former pastor. Jade is a new social worker helping abused woman and children, but her past comes back to haunt her in the form of gang activity. Just locating the story in an interesting area isn't always enough. Having grown up in Louisiana, I would have appreciated more description of the sights, scents, and feel of the area. But the mystery story is interesting and also has a light romance. I especially appreciate that the main characters are men and women of faith, and the book contains scripture intermingled with the story. You will, however, see the end coming from five miles away! Even so, it is an enjoyable read. |
