In a perfect world, Britney, Christina, Justin, Beyonce, Linkin Park, and Fred Durst would be wallowing under the Rock Of Obscurity while the Yayhoos and their ilk rocked souled-out shows at the Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. From beginning to end, there's not another album of this caliber out right now, or in the past decade at least. It's real rawk'n'roll, baby!

After mulling over the knee-jerk first sentence of this review, I reconsider. What would be the fun of knowing and diggin' this band if EVERYONE did? It's cool to be a part of a kinda "secret club" where we can silently giggle when some bonehead elitist in Billboard prints that "rock and roll is dead". Rock on, boys!

I hate the term claasic rock. To me it signifies something dated, something less than relevant to whats happening today. Fact is, this is the best pure rock and roll CD I've heard in I don't know how long. Pulsing backbeats, gritty guitars and fuzzbusting bass. If you thought rock and roll was dead, buy this disc. From the opening track, down thru the perverse lyrics of "Baby I Love You", this is a rock and roll rollercoaster of blues, swampy southern rock, and pure fun. Shame Dan Baird never got the recognition he was due, there is precious few like him. Looking for hymns on saving the rainforests, or deep introspective self serving diatribes? Pass and find your inner child. This band rocks. This band kicks... . This is rock and roll...........Please make another!

There's nothing I like better than a good bar band kicking out some honest, no-nonsense rock and roll. And since there's been no Bottlerockets CD so far this year, these guys fill the void just fine. I like this CD like I like monster trucks and watching stuff blow up.

Like the Bottlerockets, this is band is guitars, drums, and attitude. Producer/guitarist Eric "Roscoe" Ambel is the master at producing this kind of wreckless-abandon rock and roll... he knows, musically, to let the instruments do the talking, and on this CD they talk a whole lot. Singer/guitarist Dan Baird delivers the kind of vocals he's known for from his Georgia Satellites and solo projects. Neither Rosco nor drummer Terry Anderson is quite the vocalist that Dan is, but they do quite well on the songs they sing lead on. Although not familiar with bassist Keith Christopher, he also handles his chores admirably. Also, the band switches around on instruments depending on who's singing lead, so you know this is a true group effort.

The songs on this CD are pretty good as well. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the disc closes with a rocking version of Abba's "Dancing Queen" (I kid you not) that is worth the price of the CD alone. I heartily recommend this CD... It's the perfect companion to a six-pack of beer and watching the neighbors fight.

These guys are so good. There isn't a bad track on this disc. The singer of the Georgia Sats, the brilliant production and guitar work of Eric Ambel ( ex Delords, present lead on Steve Earle ). Run don't walk and dig the vibe. They cover "Dancing Queen" better than Abba.

This is an album that keeps getting better by the years, I tell you. The first times I listened to Fear Not the Obvious the stand out tracks were What Are We Waiting For & Oh! Chicago. And the rest of the songs were pretty ok. Not more.

But now with a few years on its neck, this album is a killer! Monkey With a Gun, Bottle and a Bible, Hunt You Down, Get Right With Jesus and Baby I Love You are all stand outs. The only song that doesn't work for me are the Abba cover Dancing Queen.

The Yayhoos have over the years proven to be one of my favourite Alt. Country rockbands. They are up there with Drive-By Truckers, Slobberbone, Bottle Rockets, Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt.

Without a doubt this is, hands down one of the best discs you will ever purchase, being a long time fan of Eric(Roscoe) Amble from the days of the "Laughing Gnomes" to the the "Del Lords" and "Bottle Rockets" you can only expect a quality product,add Dan Baird you gotta a winner , this disc kicks from start to finish!! Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, this is one of these great bands that you feel very maternal towards, glad to know that they have not become an item for the masses!! buy it, buy a bottle and enjoy!! viva Yayhoos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I firtst heard this being played in the intermission at a Steve Earle concert. I went " Holy S***, who's this!" These guys are smokin'. I inquire around and found them on a website. This is
the most pure rock and roll album I've heard in a long time.

Ok its nothing new, but then what is these days. This is music for a whiskey soaked, smoke filled club deep in the heart of nowhere. Guitars are whaling and knocking out basic 4 bar blues. And I love it. If you loved the other two dan baird albums you will love this. But if you want the real deal go out and find dan baird and the sofa kings album called redneck savant. This is a live album that I can only find in europe, but it includes all of dans best. So if you only buy two albums this year treat yourself to the yayhoos and the sofa kings.

Buy this for Abba's "Dancing Queen" if for no other reason--(the rest of the tracks are great also)--Yay Yayhoos---home we see some more of your tracks in the future
