Book Description

Capital Cares October 15, 2001
In this practical, sympathetic, and comprehensive guide, the experts at Today's Caregiver Magazine tell you (and 54 million other caregivers) how to be an effective, fearless and informed caregiver for your loved one-and still have time for yourself.

From the moment you discover that someone you love needs your care, through the legal and financial quagmires, to dealing with doctors, health professionals and managed care organizations, to insurance and then invaluable down-to-earth practical caregiving tips and advice for all sorts of health challenges-these experts tell you how to give and get the best care for your loved one..

The Fearless Caregiver arms you with all the knowledge and skills you need for deciding if your loved one's care is appropriate or if something more is needed, and, more importantly, the ability to do something about it.

But what about you? Who cares about the caregiver? These experts do. They show you how to overcome the depression, guilt and fear often associated with people who spend their time caring for others, and not themselves. They give you advice for finding help when you need a vacation, or just a break. They even help you make holidays joyous again.

In the pages of The Fearless Caregiver the experts speak directly to you with professional guidance to help you through the America's healthcare system as many of the vital decisions, costs and burdens are put back on the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for all Caregivers!, April 4, 2002

This review is from: The Fearless Caregiver: How to Get the Best Care for Your Loved One and Still Have a Life of Your Own (Capital Cares) (Hardcover)
It is about time that someone tackled the issues that caregivers face. It can often be a lonely and confusing time. I was a caregiver for my mother a few years ago and looked everywhere for a book like this. I needed something to walk me through all of the things I didn't understand. This a well-crafted, easy to read and understand book that all caregivers should read. I wish it had been available five years ago! I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read For Caregivers!, July 10, 2004
Families are often thrust into caregiving because of a crisis, without any experience with how to manage the overwhelming stress, responsibilities, legalities, and medical aspects. Gary has done an excellent job sorting it all out with 'The Fearless Caregiver', guiding us through the maze. Easy to read, motivating, empowering, and highly recommended! Gary is so knowledgeable, he was my choice as one of my very first guests on my 'Coping with Caregiving' radio show.

This collection, written by experts in various areas, is packed with information. The chapters are easy to read and, most important, they address real-life situations. I'll be consulting this book often - both for practical advice and for moral support.
