5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for all Caregivers!
It is about time that someone tackled the issues that caregivers face. It can often be a lonely and confusing time. I was a caregiver for my mother a few years ago and looked everywhere for a book like this. I needed something to walk me through all of the things I didn't understand. This a well-crafted, easy to read and understand book that all caregivers should...

After the author spend several pages telling you how great the magazine is which he started, he brings in other writers (doubtlessly, they were published in his magazine), who, with a perky and somewhat religious zealous attitude, advise you to "smile," or other juicy bits of advice, a la Cosmopolitan magazine. A much better book was An Uncertain Inheritance, offering a...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read For Caregivers!, July 10, 2004
Families are often thrust into caregiving because of a crisis, without any experience with how to manage the overwhelming stress, responsibilities, legalities, and medical aspects. Gary has done an excellent job sorting it all out with 'The Fearless Caregiver', guiding us through the maze. Easy to read, motivating, empowering, and highly recommended! Gary is so knowledgeable, he was my choice as one of my very first guests on my 'Coping with Caregiving' radio show.

This collection, written by experts in various areas, is packed with information. The chapters are easy to read and, most important, they address real-life situations. I'll be consulting this book often - both for practical advice and for moral support.

I recently purchased this book by Gary Barg. It is a terrific source for all caregivers and has every aspect that needs to be addressed in it. It takes you through every part of caregiving, from how to take care of yourself to attending to legal matters promptly. There is a list of ideas to help make your patient safe in his/her surroundings. This is valuable tool for every caregiver. It is superbly written and easy to read. It has been placed in our Parkinson's Library for our members to read.

This book compiles a variety of articles and poems, helpful practical hints and thoughtful commentary on the difficult task of caring for a loved one. As the owner of an internet list for caregivers of Parkinsonians, I have recommended it to others, and have received feedback from them, which indicates they found it "worth every cent" of the cost. The format is very readable, with short pieces suited to the busy lives of caregivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why it can help, December 8, 2001

So many caregivers begin knowing nothing of how the system works and what to expect. It can be so frightning trying to figure it all out and find the right places to ask for help.
This book answers many of these questions and helps with your understanding of the caregiver process. Which I can knowing tell you can be a very rewarding but thankless job at times.

A much better book was An Uncertain Inheritance, offering a collection of stories by caregivers about their experiences. Also, a magazine I do enjoy is Caring Today. This is a tough experience. I don't need bullet points that tell me to "Smile" or offer me limericks about how it feels to do this job. Give me some reality.

The Fearless Caregiver: How to Get the Best Care for Your Loved One and Still Have a Life of Your Own (Capital Cares)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is easy to read and very informative. I sent a copy to my Mom who cares for my Dad. He has Parkinson's Disease. She has introduced it to her caregivers support group and they all love it. My Paralyzed Veterans Chapter will hold its first caregivers retreat next year and each caregiver will get a copy of this book. It's that good. As a former Paramedic and Military Medic I see in this book everything needed to help a caregiver.

Best,
Doc

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book reinforced many things I've known, but needed to hear. It also pointed me to some great resources that I'd never known existed. I recommend it for everyone in a caregiving role, whether the active day-to-day caregiver or a caregiver who lives a worried distance away. It is written in short chapters or articles - easy to pick up in a spare moment.
