Book Description

September 1990
Meet Fearless Fosdick - the ideel of Li'l Abner and every other red-blooded American boy. He's tough, he's violent, he's not too bright, and thanks to Al Capp, he bears more than a passing resemblance to Chester Gould's Dick Tracy. Inside you'll find five of Fosdick's greatest cases: the Case of the Poisoned Beans, the Atom Bum, Anyface, Sidney the Crooked Parrot, and the Case of the Chippendale Chair. You'll also read Dick Tracy writer Max Allan Collins' tribute to the greatest detective of them all... Fearless Fosdick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Satire at its best, January 21, 2010

I found this absolutly Hystericaly funny-a single minded zealot who in his own manic way is more destructive than a hurricane!
The one story that was Truly Fosdick at his most awful was the "Poisoned Bean Case" in which Fosdick turns out to be more deadly to the citizens he's trying to protect than the missing can of deadly beans....

4.0 out of 5 stars Fearless Fosdick Rules, February 6, 2010

This review is from: Fearless Fosdick (Paperback)
I bought "Fearless Fosdick" for my hubby who, not being born in the U.S., had never heard of him/it until I mentioned it; then he couldn't get enough.

Of course I read this collection myself before I gave it to him, and I was amazed at how much juicy stuff I'd forgotten -- or more likely, hadn't picked up on as a kid. This is grade-A social satire, almost as relevant today as 50 - 60 years ago. I was also surprised to learn that other artists than Chester Gould had worked on it -- Frank Frazetta, for instance, whose sword 'n' sorcery art graced paperback covers through the 60's and 70's, and who practically defined the look of Conan.

Any fan of Al Capp or Chester Gould, or student of modern history *needs* Fearless Fosdick!
