5.0 out of 5 stars why has this one not become a classic?, October 14, 1998

You are looking for something extreme, scandalous, revolutionary? Sorry. You want some Phil Collins/Rod Stewart-sort of thing that your Mom and your Granny would enjoy too? No. However, this is a record that you might like nevertheless. This fine piece of music avoids successfully being offensive as well as being sentimental or dull. I (and quite a lot of other people) do not understand why hardly anyone ever paid attention to it. You can listen to it straight from the first song to the last, without ever getting bored. Every song is unique, the whole record sounds fresh, unconventional, and very personal. The melodies range from melancholy to aggressive fun, without ever annoying you by being stereotyped, noisy, or oversentimental. I especially like the beautiful, bold lyrics. My personal favourites are American Life in the Summertime (which you Americans probably won't like too much), Everyone's a Star, and Good Life, but actually nearly every song could have been a hit. This warm and intelligent record should have gone to the charts. It's a shame it didn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an Essential Album, August 8, 2002
This review is from: Fearless (Audio CD)
Francis Dunnery in my mind is one of the foremost singer-songwriters alive today. Clear, emotional vocals and crisp, exact guitar mastery make it very easy to listen over and over again. All of his releases have strength in production. One cannot be recommended over another. He was to It Bites as Peter Gabriel was to Genesis. In songs like "Feel Like Kissing You Again", you can feel the pain of loss. On the other hand, the upbeat tunes can have you bouncing around the house! If you ever get a chance, see him live. And if you can't see him live, he has 2 solo acoustic live albums that are second to none.

What A shame that this didn't becom a classic. Some really great songs included here, from a great guitarist and a very, very, good vocalist. A bit of Peter Gabriel here and there but with a Rocky edge to it..If you want to hear some killer guitar from Francis Check out Track 14 from a cd called "Calling All THe Heros" from his old band "IT BITES" a very good Prog/Pop Band... Francis is constantly changing his approach but I kind of like him best On Fearless...
