5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT STORY, December 28, 2001
By
M. Hartmann "abayyan" (Milan, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fearless Hearts (March Madness) (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
This is wonderful -- 2 families to look out for.
The great introduction brings us Bellami James and her twin brother Brooks and an older brother Rod. I certainly hope Rod gets a book of his own.
When Bellami moves to the New Mexico Territory she is slowly introduced to Trace and his family. Oh, how these lives intertwine!
"Clell", Tom McClellen knows both Hugh O'Bannion and Dr. Malone, the doctor that Bellami works for. Clell offers Bellami the lobo "Tip" who plays a great part in Bellami and Trace's lives.
Bellami, a New Yorker, doesn't recognize a wolf when she see one.
Now we come to Trace's O'Bannion family -- they surely add flavor to the mixture.
There is Flynn [whose story is in the 3rd book], the first son of Hugh and Sky O'Bannion.
The second son is Trace, 28 [book #1], then Shane who is 20 [no story that I know of]-- the fourth child is Missie O'Bannion, almost 17 -[her story and Brooks is in the 2nd book "Territorial Bride"] - and the 5th child is Logan, 14.
Such a great roster of characters that I don't expect to lose interest in these families and will probably have to reread this set again.
And I can't forget "Ghost", Trace's grey stallion [because of my love for Arabian horses]
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful first book, July 23, 2000
This review is from: Fearless Hearts (March Madness) (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Can a angry blind man and his scarred, once beautiful teacher find love in wild New Mexico? Full review: A recluse since her accident, once vibrant and beautiful Bellami James now hides behind a hat and veil shielding herself from the outside world. When the chance to go out west to New Mexico and train a recently blinded boy, Bellami jumps at the opportunity.

Lawman Trace O'Bannion was bitter and angry after his accident that stole his sight and livlihood. When a young woman arrives to train him, he is even angrier and plans to drive Bellami away. But Bellami is as stubborn as Trace.

Shocked that her new student is a grown man and not a boy, Bellami vows to make the best of it and train this man to the best of her abilities. But the angry young man becomes caring and tender toward Bellami. When Bellami and Trace fall in love, Bellami believes that she has finally found happiness. But what if he saw what she really looked like? Would he still feel the same? Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of Heart and Soul; Sensuous Romance, April 13, 2005
This review is from: Fearless Hearts (March Madness) (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Bellami James is lured to the New Mexico Territory to care for and teach a blind child. Bellami was scarred in some sort of horrific accident (you find out how later in the story) and feels most comfortable around the blind for they cannot see her lack of beauty! But she has been tricked. It is not a boy but a blind grown man! Trace O'Bannion has no desire to learn to live with his handicap. Bitter and reclusive, his family does what they think best - they leave poor Bellami alone with him on his ranch to sink or swim. He is angry and taunting since he has been tricked too! Bellami gives as good as she takes and the fight is on! In the end, Trace learns to live and love again and Bellami learns to accept her own lack of perfection. They both learn to trust. What a beautiful and sensuous journey they make together.

You will see how our hero and heroine's families love and care for Bellami and Trace. They are both watched over by these "guardian angels" of rough ranchers and Bellami's twin brother, Brooks. Indeed there is another love story in the making between Brooks and Trace's sister. You will come to enjoy the animals - Tip, a lobo dog that Bellami raised from a small pup not realizing he is a wolf (or half-wolf). Ghost, the stallion, not only represents Trace's wish for independence but represents the growing sexual tension between Bellami and himself.

But misunderstandings and miscommunication leads to Bellami leaving Trace - and he must convince her of his love and bring her back! Can he? Powerful and riveting love story not to be missed! My copy is dog-eared from reading. I have others in this series but have not managed to open them yet. I am too busy re-reading this one.
