Book Description

“We can surrender or we can fight.”

This is the creed that drives Chieftain Kieran MacAuley in his lifelong fight to free Ireland from the English. Known as The Fearless One, he leads his men into a battle that only he survives. While he waits for death to claim him, a courageous lass steps from the shadows.

A skilled healer, she will tell him only her first name: Brynna. Her mysterious past intrigues him, and her kind heart entrances him. When he finds himself suddenly home with no memory of his time away, he’s bewildered. One night a soft voice reaches through his hazy memory, lovingly whispering his name. The next night he hears only quiet sobbing, and then it falls silent. He cannot recall the woman who matches that voice, but his famed warrior instincts know some things for certain.

Brynna needs him. And he must do anything to find her.

Kieran MacAuley is no stranger to battles. He is The Fearless One of Ireland and has been fighting against the English his entire life. His men lost a pivotal battle and as he lay dying, Brynna appears and nurses him back to health. After his recovery, he finds himself with no memory of the battle or his healer, except he is haunted by dreams of a woman. Can he find this mysterious woman of whom he has no memory? Can he protect Ireland against the English?

I loved Brynna's character and how she brings a fae twist to the story. Also, most of the conflict of the story revolves her and the people she knows. I found it easy to understand her motivations and subsequent actions. Did I mention how I adored her fae side?! The heart of the story is about how the fae like to meddle in human affairs. I loved this aspect because the paranormal flare sets this Irish historical romance apart from others.

Kieran is a typical, alpha male character, but without an over-the-top caveman complex that is so common nowadays. I liked how his injuries and coming close to death gave him a new perspective on life, especially when Brynna appears. At heart, Kieran is a mama's boy in the best sense of the word and he is completely lovable.

I found the plot very odd in that the story seems like several short stories stuck together. I often wondered where the story was going, especially since there were several points of conflict within the story. Luckily, all of the conflict is resolved, albeit very linearly. I think I would have liked to have all the conflict mashed together to add to the intrigue and storytelling. If so, then the reader doesn't have a happy sigh moment and then wonder where the story is going to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed it. March 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Fearless is a delightful historical fantasy romance that I thoroughly enjoyed.
While fighting to free Ireland from the English, Chieftain Kieran MacAuley, The Fearless One, leads his men into a battle that, though badly wounded, only he survives. He is on the verge of death when a woman called Brynna steps from the shadows. She takes him to her home and heals him but tells him nothing of her past. He is baffled by her mystery but responds to her kind heart and a loving relationship develops.

Suddenly he's at home again with no memory of his time away, but hazy memories surface in his dreams - his name lovingly whispered, then quiet sobbing. He knows that he has known the woman who matches that voice, but he can't remember her, even so, his instincts tell him that she needs him and he must do anything to find her.
He does find her, raped and beaten almost to death by the English, and he takes her to his home to be nursed back to health. As soon as she is well again, she tries to leave, but by then, Kieran knows that she saved his life, his love has reawakened despite the spell she put on him to make him forget, and he can't let her leave his protection to be at the mercy of the English again.

Eventually the mystery of Brynna is revealed. The Fey play a part, some with kindness and one with the sort of self serving, duplicitous behaviour we have come to associate with faerie characters.
I loved the characters in this book. They are all well written, very real people. Kieran is delightful, a powerful warrior softened by his love for a woman and driven to protect her at all costs. He's the epitome of the romantic hero with a heart as strong and passionate as his sword wielding abilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read January 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a story of an Irish chieftain who is fight for his country, for his life and that of his clan.
"We can surrender or we can fight."
Kieran MacAuley, then finds him self lying beside his other fallen clan members; and dream of a delicate lass stopping at each of the falling and putting a single kiss on there forehead. All he wishes is for her to kiss his lips so he may die with the taste of her lips on his. And she granted it.
Brynna is her name the small lass that kissed each of the falling men to free there souls.

This was a very unique story and I enjoyed reading it. Part supernatural and part historical. A time when war was hitting Ireland from the the English. A time when all who wanted to be free fought to try and keep what was once there's.
This story is based around to main charters Brynna who is fey and Kieran who is the chieftain of his clan the MacAuley.
This was a well-written story.
I was sorry when it ended and wanted more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Love Story December 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was in the mood for a Highland Romance when I picked this story up--and it delivered. FEARLESS is the story of Chieftain Kieran MacAuley, known as "The Fearless One," and Brynna, a woman of mixed heritage on the run. And when I say this is a love story, I really mean it. Yes, there is some Highland political maneuvering and a battle, but we don't really experience much of it.

Lying in the battlefield where all his kin and fellow Irishmen fall after battle with the English, Kieran waits for death to take him when a beautiful young woman steps from the shadows to tend to the men. She finds Kieran barely alive and whisks him away to tend to his wounds. When Kieran finds himself suddenly home with no memory of his time after the battle, he is baffled. But, he KNOWS deep down he is forgetting something and someone important. He's a changed man. He's always relied on his instincts, and follows them to find her.

This story was so different than any other Highland romances I've read in the past. Yes, there are elements of familiarity as the Irish fight the English, a sworn enemy, a capture, and a romance. However, this was done fairly different than the norm. I think a lot of the differences most notably had to do with the magic and the fae used in this story. I've read several cheesy Highland stories that failed miserably trying to incorporate magic into the story, so I was a bit hesitant to start this one. Fortunately, the magic and fae in this story felt very organic and complete.

Kieran never wanted to marry, as he only had room in his heart for one mistress and Ireland has been his mistress all his life--until he meets Brynna. Now, he has something else to fight for and something to actually fear.
