A beautiful tomboy nicknamed "Trouble," Lisa Andersen ran away from home at age sixteen, determined to become the best surfer in the world. In this wholly original biography, esteemed surf writer Nick Carroll captures her unconventional path to fame. Lisa Andersen did indeed become surfing world championnot once, but four times. Along the way she raised a baby daughter on tour, launched the Roxy brand surf wear for girls, broke a thousand hearts, and inspired an entire generation of girls to surf. Editorial Reviews

Review

"Lisa made us realize it was okay to be a girl and surf." Layne Beachley, seven-time world surfing champion

"Lisa defined a new era for women's surfing and changed what men thought of how women surfed. She's the young girl that grew up too fast in one way, but couldn't wait to get there and never wanted to look back." Kelly Slater

"Surfers will want to read it and female athletes will enjoy the story of a woman who made it to the top, but any teenager who ever felt trapped and alone by circumstance, any teen who knew her parents were never going to understand, that her life was on a deadend trajectory with high school fading into a crap job at some low-paying retail outlet, needs to know how Lisa Andersen made it. They need to know that you can do anything—anything—when you work your ever loving ass off at it." —BookSlut.com

Lisa's story is interesting and the photos are fun to look at but the writing is down right awful. Would have liked it better if she wrote it herself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story. Horrible writing., December 18, 2009

This review is from: Fearlessness: The Story of Lisa Andersen (Hardcover)
Lisa's story is captivating and inspiring. A truly fine read especially if you are a surfer. Nick Carroll's writing just about ruined it for me. It has the flow of cinder blocks tumbling down a flight of stairs. Someone should confiscate the colon/semi-colon key on his computer. Geez, dude! A first person version with perhaps Chris Ahrens at the keyboard would have made this book much better.
