"Lisa made us realize it was okay to be a girl and surf." Layne Beachley, seven-time world surfing champion
"Lisa defined a new era for women's surfing and changed what men thought of how women surfed. She's the young girl that grew up too fast in one way, but couldn't wait to get there and never wanted to look back." Kelly Slater
"Surfers will want to read it and female athletes will enjoy the story of a woman who made it to the top, but any teenager who ever felt trapped and alone by circumstance, any teen who knew her parents were never going to understand, that her life was on a deadend trajectory with high school fading into a crap job at some low-paying retail outlet, needs to know how Lisa Andersen made it. They need to know that you can do anything—anything—when you work your ever loving ass off at it." —BookSlut.com

Lisa's story is interesting and the photos are fun to look at but the writing is down right awful. Would have liked it better if she wrote it herself!

Lisa's story is captivating and inspiring. A truly fine read especially if you are a surfer. Nick Carroll's writing just about ruined it for me. It has the flow of cinder blocks tumbling down a flight of stairs. Someone should confiscate the colon/semi-colon key on his computer. Geez, dude! A first person version with perhaps Chris Ahrens at the keyboard would have made this book much better.

all i can say is that while i was living in Hawaii, i couldn't be more happy to just be propped up on my lanai reading this book till the end. I could NOT put it down. Truley inspiring. Lisa Anderson is definatley someone i look up too and in a time where i was down, her story picked me up. If your into surfing or not, its a must reader.
