Biography

Once regarded as Philadelphia Hip Hop’s “best kept secret,” Reef the Lost Cauze is no longer the best underground MC you’ve never heard of: he’s ready to shed the title once and for all and become a household name. The battle-tested MC is poised to have a breakthrough year in 2010: not by switching up his style or conforming to ready-made ideals of mainstream acceptability, but rather by staying… Read more in Amazon's Reef the Lost Cauze Store

5.0 out of 5 stars How hip hop is supposed to be, April 5, 2006
By
Bars (Copenhagen Denmark) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feast of Famine (Audio CD)
Man, nobody can argue, that Reef isn't one of our days most talented lyricists. I knew that the lyrical content would be crazy, but that the beats would be that great too, I couldn't imagine. Reef used to battle and freestyle alot, and since I heard Wordsworth's (great freestyle rapper) Mirror Music, I've been a little scepticle towards freestyle rappers making albums, but FEAST OR FAMINE is just plain serious, hardcore, hilarious, interlectual, society-concious and funny rap. He mix it all and creates something new, something that the hip hop has been missing.
Now, the beats, i would say the standout tracks are "Humble Beginnings", "Sound Of Philadelphia", "Coltrane", "Commander In Chief" and "Look At The Sun". But most outstanding is Humble Beginnings; after 30 sec's of Phone messages, the most incredible piano loop sets the beat off, followed by the perfect drums. as the songs developes, the beat changes, and violins are added amongst several instruments, and in the end, all the different instruments are gathered in one huge musical masterpiece (dramatic??!).

Reef The Lost Cauze isn't the most discussed artist, so if you're on this page, it means you are into real hip hop, and when you made it this far, purchase the damn album, you will not, I repeat, WILL NOT- be disappointed.

By the Way, Reef is part of the major side project on babygrande called Army Of The Pharoahs, and the cd "The Torture papers" has just been released. Especially the 1st single "Tear It Down", featuring Reef the Lost Cauze, Planetary of Outerspace and Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, is Off The Mo'Fo' Hook, it's indescribable....

So move the curser to the purchase button, and experience a great hip hop album.

Peace, Jeppe B

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm proud to be from Philly, February 18, 2006
This review is from: Feast of Famine (Audio CD)
Yo there is no way you could deny the lyrical skills and abilities of this man. I think if he drops 2 albums half as good as this one he will become a legend in the Philly Circuit. Maybe the nation. This man showed me that there still are some rappers that just wanna make music and not worry about how many booty shakin songs is on the album for radio airplay. This dude got raw god given talent. The bars he come up wit I really don't think to many rappers out there have the mental capacity the vocabulary the wit or brain power to think of. I can't imagine how you could listen to him and not be laughin at every track at least once. He got his own style and at the same time you can still tell he from philly. This album is Pure Fire. He also has some songs with meaning that are lyrically intricate as well to prove he can vividly paint pictures through music and not just battle raps. But on the album you can't wait until his next battle rap track. Reef is too nice and hilarious at the same time taking a comedic look at his living at home with his mom after moving out. I really think... Naw let me rephrase that... get this album the power of Christ compells you if you like anykind of rap you'll love dis. Matta fact even if you like punk rock or Pop or somthin you can cop this. It don't matter if you from Philly,Arkansas,Wyoming yo cop this ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year., September 29, 2005
This review is from: Feast of Famine (Audio CD)
"They say Imma young Nasir minus nine years"

If you are looking at this page that means ur thinking about buying this album...
So let me remove all doubt from ur mind, COP THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!

I knew this album would feature amazing lyriscism by Reef but I had no idea the production would be so off the hook.

This album is right up there (and probably above) Common's Be, The Minstrel Show, Ttriangulation Station, 1988, and Late Registration for album of the year.
